The new version of WinTV is due out in a matter of weeks. Hopefully that'll set the benchmark and also maybe include codecs that can be utilised by other applications.

There's no if's man, i already got our freeview ts files working in vitual dub using the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter and avisynth. Problem is i'm getting audio out of sync by 200ms which is easily fixable in virtual dub but annoying. Like sbiddle pointed out it could be because directshow is loading 2 audio decoders. I'll play around with the merit values and see if i can get just 1 audio decoder loaded. Will require a restart but so cant test right now. What i have tried though is loading specific filters using graphedit files and avisynths DirectShowSource and while it plays fine in media player classic the avs script wont load in virtual dub.

Just to resurrect this thread. If I understand correctly, if one downloads PowerDirector (to get the right DS filters to split our ts files), you can load the files into Virtualdub and edit them. Do you need Monogram in the mix or is the Cyberlink audio codec good enough?

Then potentially you can save the files (leave video as direct stream copy and process audio as AC3 perhaps) and output a file that is more readily playable? Of course since Virtualdub writes avi not sure the avi container supports h.264 video and ac-3 audio.

OK - downloaded PowerDirector and with some fiddling managed to get this graph (had to de-install Haali media splitter and also I think the PDVD8 H.264/AVC decoder. Don't know how to lower its merit so just de-registered the ax file.

The file plays and I can hear the audio which is good. But I have no idea how to route the audio out to a file and output say wav.

Any ideas?

I don't have PowerDirector installed. Not sure if the Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) filter came with powerdvd 8 or the latest powerdvd 8 patch?

I think if you leave video as direct stream copy the output will be uncompressed RGB. The issue i have with using virtual dub to compress our ts files is that the audio goes out of sync.

The Wav Dest filter can be used in graphedit to convert audio to wav but it doesnt support our he-aac audio. Well i didnt get it working anyway.

Well as you can see from my graph I got all the filters going (but only in graphedit). And like you if I let Windows choose the filters it goes for Nero for the splitter. I can manually load the PDVD8 splitter and get the filter chain working but if I de-register Nero and try to load the ts file, graphedit cannot find a compatible splitter and barfs.

As for audio, how are you even loading the audio into Virtualdub via avisynth. I am guessing that you have managed to the entire filter chain to load automatically and can play the ts file in Virtualdub? If that is the case then the AAC audio has already been decoded and you can use Virtualdub to output the audio as wav?

That's right, if you can get the ts file loaded into virtualdub (say through avisynth) you can save the audio to wav.

yeah, got all that working. The tip was from you to raise the merit value of the Cyberlink Demux filter. Having done that I successfully took the ax file to another machine, registered it and it worked okay also.

Some strange things though

1. For TV1 the audio shows up in VD as 24Kz sampling. That is no good for conversion to AC3 so I have to upsample to 48Khz before conversion

2. The differences between audio and video (delay or advance) seem to differ from file to file. I can usually work it out, either by sampling and viewing the output or occasionally looking at what dgavcindex thinks the audio delay is (positive or negative). It just adds another step to the conversion

Now if TV1/2 broadcast AC3 all this silliness would go away!

spoke too soon. For all other TV1/TV2 files I have opened in VD, the audio shows up at 48Khz. That's fine but when demuxed to wav they play 100% fast! And I haven't round a way to 1/2 the speed yet.

Luckily at the same time the author of dgavcindex was looking at some streams I had captured and had problems demuxing. He identified the issues and uploaded a fix which seems to work. So my original process of demux, play in Winamp, convert to ac3 with besweet and mux back is working again. The VD solution is great if it worked all the time - the double up on speed is a bit strange.
