Jaxson: sbiddle, what was the format of the zinwell box, was it box + external HDD or is it an all in one PVR? Twin tuners sort of thing or single etc? How does it schedule recordings etc?

It's just a regular all in one unit.. Not much more I can say about it at present other than yes it does support multiple recordings and you will be able to schedule recordings.

I had heard rumors a few weeks ago of a target $599 pricepoint for this unit but I guess that could depend on what size HDD they spec for the unit.

Good to see some things from that article:
New schedule EPG seems to have been developed.
Freeview have set a minimum standard of twin tuners for approved PVR's

Those are both moves in the right direction if true.

I'm still surprised at Zinwells ability to develop their products so quickly in that they were miles ahead of the opposition in coming to market with the HD stb. It's almost like they got a heads up ahead of the competition on what the final specs would be.

Anyway, I'm glad that a HD PVR has been confirmed as this means the recording/licencing/copy protection type issues must have been addressed in some way. There's mention that other companies will provide PVR's soon as well and, with the schedule EPG sorted as well, hopefully this will allow the likes of Sonys PS3 PlayTV to finally get off the ground here as well. I'm hoping it's only been these issues holding things up as Sony has inbuilt freeview TV tuners in place already.

If they are anything like their first HD STBs to go on sale here , I'll wait until the competition bring theirs out
