Looks pretty good. Where did you get it from? What sort of server do you need if you want play over the network or is it DLNA compliant. Can it access a SMB share on a server?

Thanks

OK - I just read the manual. It looks pretty good, especially for $88. One thing that I cannot glean from the manual is, can it access a HTML file and display it. If it can then it could use YAMJ as the interface and that would be cool.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

There's a review of it at http://www.mamakuku.co.nz/apacer-al460-network-media-player-review.html

I brought mine off firstin, it was a 1 day special that's expired. Having said that, I think it's only $85 + postage from http://www.mamakuku.co.nz/apacer-al460-full-hd-tv-media-player.html

It has support for CIFS and SMB protocols.
It's not, as far as I am aware, DLNA compliant.

Not sure about html support.

There's some info about being able to flash it with the AL670 firmware. There's a video showing how to do it that I have not looked at. I'm a bit suspicious about it as there is only video instructions and I'm not sure that I would trust it. Having said that, there's nothing in the al670 that I would want that the al460 doesn't do.

Deev8: I ordered a Popcorn Hour A-210 a couple of days ago and it should certainly satisfy my requirements.

I now have a Popcorn Hour A-210, and although I've only had a short time to play with it I'm very happy with the appearance and functionality. It plays my Freeview|HD recordings perfectly, but there was no doubt on that front.

It does seem to be an improvement on the Popcorn Hour A-200. I much prefer the look of the black aluminium case, but that's a subjective view, and I do like the passive cooling rather than the A-200's fan.

Actually the Popcorn Hour A-210 isn't playing my Freeview|HD recordings as perfectly as I thought.

I hit a problem as soon as I fast forward or skip ahead during playback (to skip through ads). When I press the play button again, playback is abruptly ended, and I’m dropped back into the on-screen list of media files on the disk. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
These are Freeview|HD programmes recorded as .TS files using GB-PVR. Although I will attach the Popcorn Hour to my home network, it's currently operating in a standalone configuration with no network connection, playing files from a USB-attached disk. So far I've tried perhaps a dozen recorded programmes, all with similar results. The recordings play perfectly Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 and skip forwards / skip backwards etc as expected using GB-PVR on my PC. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

I’ve tried playing recordings from a USB memory stick rather than the portable disk, and get the same result. Finally I have transcoded a couple of the recordings using Handbrake – the Popcorn Hour played the resulting MKV files without any issues skipping forwards and backwards flawlessly. Transcoding was an interesting experiment, but of course it isn't a long-term solution.

The problem I was experiencing with my new Popcorn Hour A-210 playing Freeview|HD recordings (.ts files) has been solved after I received some useful information from lchiu7.

For anyone else who wants to use a Popcorn Hour A-200 or A-210 to play Freeview|HD recordings in .ts file format the key is an issue in the current version of firmware, which also existed in the previous version of firmware. The solution was to load the firmware version 02-02-100428-19-POP-411 (which was released in May 2010).
