bjorn: I think all that are involved think if they ignore it that it will just all go away..
I didn't get a reply from tvtv UK either.
codyc1515: In my opinion the broadcasters do not deserve to be paid extra for others to use their non-encrypted (read again, public) EPG data for the simple reason that this is one of the expenses paid for when broadcasters go to broadcast their channels on Freeview.

jedney: I'm wondering how Sony haven't got themselves into trouble by advertising on their website that PlayTV has a:
"...handy 7 day Electronic Program Guide (EPG)...
* Easy to use interface with a 7 Day EPG
* Freeview Compliant"
(Ref: http://www.sony.co.nz/product/playtv)
Does this not clearly imply that the 7 day EPG should work across all channels in NZ?
sbiddle:
Freeview broadcast EPG data that any device that supports MHEG5 can access. I know I keep repeating this like a stuck record but there is absolutely no reason why PlayTV can't have full EPG support for every network today.

Yes you could argue that....why don't you have them on about it....could be worth a try!!!?

If it says freeview compliant, as well as a 7 day EPG, and doesn't advertise eclusions, then I think you could have a case for returning it, as it isn't being advertised correctly. The advertising you have provided, you would presume it would include all the channels in the EPG. When tivo didn't have prime and maori, they clearly advertised this problem, which is why a lot of people didn't buy it..
jedney: I don't really blame Sony for the problem, business is business and I'm sure MediaWorks and Prime are hoping that all the pressure around this will force Sony to cough up some (probably serious overinflated) costs to get this data provided.
Data deals where companies charge well over the odds for information which really they should make freely available are common place (just look at how much NZ Post charge companies for their postcode/address data!), but where I do think Sony are in wrong is by not making this product shortfall known. I purchased the PlayTV thinking I was getting a full solution with EPG and i didn't get that; that is simply misleading advertising which is not the sort of behaviour you should expect from a company the size of Sony.
Good idea with the survey, i hope it puts some additional pressure on the 3 parties to get this resolved. I don't want to "vote with my feet" and get a refund for the PlayTV because I'm hopeful that one day it will be fixed. Until then though, I think Sony should ammend their advertising.
