cb1: I get
- occasional pixelation
- lock ups (of various flavours - 1) complete lockup , 2) "i" information banner won't go away unless you press exit, can't change channels unless you select the list and choose one). Power reset seems to fix it for a while
- clock problem did seem to be alot better with the 1.05 Nov 21 firmware, but noticed today time was well off what it should be
- signal quality has always 100%, but signal level has increased with latest firmware from 5-10% to 40-50%

Describes my situation exactly. + Audio dropouts on optical and dig coax out (but TV3 5.1 shows are fine now)

EPG is slow on any receiver, Zinwell included. I had Zinwell for aprpox. 2 weeks prior to ET box arriving. EPG is standard across platforms as is same Mheg5 software. Zinwell didn't suit my needs at the time (changed now though) as I had an older TV with DVI in and Zinwell HDMI out was not compatible, and then it's component out is limited to SD. Also interesting is Zinwell does not allow native signal resolution to pass through to TV, there is no Auto setting so all channels get scaled to only one of 576, 720 or 1080 by Zinwell box. Zinwell had no real problems for me (not to say it doesn't, just it worked as it said it would for me). Just ran hot was all but this didn't seem to affect it.

Is slightly annoying that the sound level on these boxes is quite low and also annoying that when I set tv3 to the mpeg stream (I think thats the slightly louder stream that matches the other channels) it wont remember that setting when you change channels.

Think this is what the bypass option was brought in to do, to select dolby 5.1 if available on a channel. If you change from bypass to alternative option in the options menu, does it stop defaulting to this audio source by default? Try this out if it's really getting to you, just you'll have to reenable the option if you ever do want to pass the 5.1 audio to your receiver.

Not sure if this will fix, but worth a try for you. Cheers.

Hi Pete, will the PVR functionality work with Flash drives as well as USB hard drives. I realise you are probably busy in testing, but some more info would be great, especially since the competition announced their PVR today.

PVR functn...they reckon by end of month...too slow...but its out of my hands...or I'd do it myself!!

Yes a big difference in price Zinwell myfreeview 250GB DTR $1149 Can record two channels and view another!!

Geeezzeee I didnt think there were that many channels worth watching at the same time.

I had a nice break for a week . . .Thanks for those that posted reports to my request.

Only Butterflys are more beautiful.

YEH not enough complete reports. Of course there are heaps of people out there with no problems at all like myself.

Dont think that there are things that I wouldnt change. This one below is at the top of my list an affect all Freeview receivers with MHEG5.
The first is to ditch the sluggish EPG MHEG5 and get a decent Middleware like MHP (european) However Freeview NZ has adopted MHEG5 so its too late. I'd be interested in seeing the new Zinwell MyFreeview work. The EPG even further bloated with the PVR functions, it could be a nightmare waiting for the screen to change after pressing the button.

ANOTHER SURVEY

ET users (and . . OK then . . the odd Zinwell user)

How many times a night do you use the EPG (MHEG5) to look at advanced programme options?

Only Butterflys are more beautiful.

None.

Is there something specific you want to know or test as I am happy to do it if it helps improve the experience.

Sorry not even sure what you mean here. I'd probably use the EPG more if the PVR thing eventuated.

I you mean do I use the epg, (what are advanced programme options), then yes I use this to check if a show has dolby surround sound or is in HD, or when it starts etc...

My experience with this unit has so far been pretty good. I have used it in two different scenarios
1) In a small room with average to poor reception, using a 25dB powered internal aerial.
2) In the living room wired up to the roof mounted (but small) UHF aerial with average reception.
Both positions received all the channels, although there were some signal breakups and pixellation in the small room

In the small room with the internal flat panel aerial I had:
- The box seize up once, requiring a full reboot.
- Total loss of audio (but with normal picture) on one occasion which could not be fixed by a power cycle. A factory reset and rescan of all channels fixed this.
- Total loss of the picture (with no audio)on a couple of occasions, which could not be fixed by a power cycle. A factory reset and rescan of all channels fixed this.
- The other channels appearing on the screen for a split second during House.
- Clock out of sync (using the 21st November firmware which was supposed to resolve this)

In the lounge wired up to the sub-par roof aerial (but with much better signal strength and quality), the box has been rock solid. No changes were made to the setup other then to change the aerial and the STB supplied power for the aerial. The only problem I have seen is the brief occasional flash of another channel during House, but I suspect that this is a broadcasting issue rather than anything to do with the ET box.

Maybe the instability issues some boxes have been having are due to poor signal strength, as all my problems seemed to go away when I improved this.?????

this is a real silly question, however,when using the EPG, I get a description of the programme selected. Fine, however some of these descriptions are 2 pages. Now I get of course page 1/2, but which button do I press to get page 2/2....?
