What a sceptic! They have 11 1/2 hours to produce the PVR software - whatever in this thread made you think they won't deliver like they promised??!!
Anyway, the proof will be in the pudding - in particular exactly how the PVR software is implemented. eg - will it use the full 8-day EPG, as promised? How will the recordings be accessed - through a decent interface like a DVD/HD PVR? If it has an interface worse than our five year old PVR, I'm not going to be too keen...
Regarding the firmware upgrades on these STBs , mine has version v1.03(jul 30 2008) can I then skip to the latest version or do need to find a version v1.04 from somewhere.

my experience has shown that the middleware is completely overwritten and is not backwards enabled . it can only update to a newer version, not back to an older version. it doesnot have top be incremental.

I'm not a sceptic, but in my experience 90% of software developments fail to be delivered on schedule ... and a high percentage miss their revised deadlines as well.

Sorry - classic case of intended tone not coming through! I was being sarcastic - such scepticism seems to be warranted going by these guys' apparent inability to deliver firmware updates that deliver what users want/need and to a promised timeframe.
I read this whole thread from start to finish as it made interesting reading - never have I seen such a good example of a seller cr@pping in his own nest!

OK my turn to say sorry, for a similar reason. If I gave the impression that I had been offended, I didn't intend to. I was just explaining that more often than not software developments overrun their original schedules - and I don't consider expecting the usual outcome to be sceptical.
I certainly agree that reading though this thread nobody should be surprised by a delay.
I think the PVR update will be here by the end of the month.
In the mean time, can anyone confirm if the dolby digital audio for 5.1 is output over hdmi please? or is it only via the coax/opt? And I guess the next question is, if it is over hdmi, does it have the associated audio dropouts?

Chinese New Year starts on the 19th of Jan and runs for two weeks. If its not here by then, I wouldn't expect much progress to be made on it during that period.
Still no sign of PVR software or any updates from Pete
Petes latest promise was by end of December.
See that he is responding to questions on items he is selling on trademe - so he must be about.
Also note that one of his ads on Trademe says PVR software avaialable in around two weeks. Now - is this an update or just an attempt to entice buyers.
Pete - can we ask you to provide us with a real delivery date for the PVR sofware? - not promises, which you you are obviously unable to meet.
