Bother!

Only just got freeview a couple of weeks ago and was already reaping the rewards of SBS with ability to watch the cycling and the BBC content.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Murdoch et al are involved. Sky prices going up soon as well...

Dish tv supplier in Hamilton had no info other than confirming it wasn't broadcasting.

JayVeeare: I have not been able to get the two SBS channels for the past 2 days. (Hamilton)  I went online to catchup on some programmes and discovered I could not view any on line.

Perhaps they have cut all links to NZ, or.... worse still like Channel 7 they can not afford to keep the service going.

I downloaded a one hour programme tonight from the SBS website without any problem.  You need to use a VPN which supports Australian servers.

Well those of you who don't have an Aurora Irdeto card so that you can get SBS off Optus C1 (for the next 18 months) missed one of the best episodes of Rockwiz tonight. However you will be able to get it from www.sbs.com.au/rockwiz and you won't need to use a VPN.

cobranz:

I was also looking forward to the Eurovision Song Contest in 3 weeks. Since Stratos doesn't exsist anymore - who brought us the show in the last years - I don't think there will be any change to watch it this year apart from the Internet. BVN on D2 would bring it. But there is not much of interest on this satelit for us.

Hopefully, the Eurovision contest will be showing on ERT World on D2.

Thanks for the info. Usually it will be shown on BVN on D2. At the moment we use an exsisting skydish - no sky - for the freeview decoder. Does anyone know how much it would cost to add another LNB and what else we would need?

You can get brackets to put 2 or 3 LNB's onto the same satellite dish, but only one of the LNB's would be in an optimal position for the dish, so you would probably need a 90cm dish.
There are always guys on TradeMe selling packages including dish/LNB/STB/cabling - I got one delivered for less than $100. I'm sure that installing a second dish would be easier than installing a second LNB on a Sky dish - and no risk of screwing up your Optus D1 reception.
You will also need a Diseqc switch so that your STB can switch between LNB's (or just use 2 separate STB's).

Greetings.

My first post so please bare with me.

I'm Coromandel based and like you guys I've also lost those great SBS channels.

I do however possess a 1.8m prime focus solid dish which I'd like to point at C1 (I have an IRDETO Card).

My question is, can someone suggest a decent LNB to buy for the weak AURORA signals.

Thanks guys.

I'm picking up SBS and SCTV (7 Central) with a bog standard LNB on a 60cm dish from Optus Aurora on C1.

Are you looking to access the NA beam so that you can get ABC and WIN (Channel 9)?

Question: What is the legal status of obtaining Aurora smartcards for use in NZ? I would presume it's not legal, right?

Yep its illegal, but in saying that i done some work at a police officers house and he had one, i told him they were illegal and he didnt seem concerned at all. customs i think is the one to be weary of

I'm sure there is Australian legislation restricting who Aurora smartcards can be distributed to.
I doubt whether there is any NZ legislation to say that I can't have an Aurora smartcard in my STB in NZ.
