The biggest problem with TiVo down here is that there are no new recorders on the horizon so as the current ones die and can't be repaired the service will die with it.

Fair call. I guess the current boxes are in 'maintenance mode' and we won't see any significant new features.

The killer feature for me was online booking of recordings, and I'm impressed the Panasonic does that.

Streaming to my iPad however... That gives me serious tech envy!

Killerkiwi2005: Whats tvheadend like compared to mythbackend this seems like a good replacement options instead of paying for a replacement pc

I've not had direct experience with mythTV, so can't comment from personal experience, but I have heard people say that TVHeadend was simpler to set up. The main thing that I had to mess about with a bit was setting up the EPG, as the MHEG5 EPG we use here is not commonly used in other countries.

I've been looking into satellite boxes, as we are moving to a house that doesn't receive UHF.

I was interested to note that the freeviewshop are selling PVR units that can record via ethernet to a "network attached HDD". I'm about to invest in a NAS unit so I like that idea a lot.

Read the manual carefully. I think you'll find it will transfer recordings via ethernet to a PC or network drive. It won't record via ethernet. Needs external USB HDD or USB device to record.

You can never be sure until you have it set up and running but ...

The instructions sheet specifically sets out how you configure to "record to a NAS" thern sue the time shfit menu to record to it.

Also says you can playback from a NAS.

OK, found it. It's not in the manual but in the separate Freeviewshop Technical Communication Datasheet.
Very interesting and a reasonable price.
Now if you could plug in a Sky card that would really be the icing on the cake.
