 Must of just upgraded the equipment and not switched over to it, I am in Pakuranga and it is still in SD

The equipment has been upgraded so it's ready for changes, an announcement will be made when it is time, as people will need to reseries link content on affected channels.

Seems like you guys are right. I probably need my eyes checked. its not HD over terrestrial freeview.

Duke on the other hand seems better, but I can't confirm if its in HD or not via Tivo. The Duke live stream is a far better quality than terrestrial freeview, I wonder if the livestream is in HD? My Kodi is reporting a stream of 1280x720 px, 25FPS.

TiVo receives Freeview Terrestrial transmissions so Duke is obviously not HD. It couldn't be in HD if you wanted it to be as the muxes have a finite bandwidth of 26 Mbps, i.e., only allows TVNZ1 and TVNZ2 in HD

Do you have an example? In Australia, ABC have 1 out of 5 channels in HD, SBS 2/6, Seven 1/6, Nine 1/6, Ten 1/6. That's a total of 6 out of 29, which is only slightly better than New Zealand (3 out of 25).

I'm sure I read it on Geekzone somewhere but wasn't this thread which I've just skim read though did see your earlier comment re Australia's 6 out of 29 HD channels.  I also follow a few TiVo and DishTV threads which at one point or another each bang the HD drum.

You made the claim "other countries using similar Freeview models have lots of HD channels available over the air", and I've seen no evidence to back this up, but then only have limited knowledge in this area. Even Australia could be argued as not been of a similar Freeview model since each network owns their own frequency, where as in NZ a single UHF frequency can be shared between broadcasters.

I did notice turning on our Sony last night it flagged up with an automatic notice suggesting a rescan of channels (Napier) which I ran.  I did look and Maori TV still said it was 576i.

I got the "Rescan needed" alert this morning (We're in Lower Hutt).  

I wasn't aware of the test channels until now - just flicked over to them and they're loading, but very glitchy - maybe they're just from Kaukau at this stage?

800 is Maori TV, 1080i HD

801 is a place holder, SD 

802 is a place holder, SD

803 is Te Reo, 1080i HD

I wonder what the other 2 channels will be (please not Chinese or shopping....pleeeease!)

I'm wondering with Maori TV and Te Reo now moved to their own, if TVNZ Duke will go HD, Please excuse my mix up if I get the previous Mux allocations wrong, I don't live in an HD area
