openmedia: Just had the following update

---

TVNZ have notified Freeview that the occasional sport channel on Freeview, TVNZ Sport Extra, is now available only on the Freeview | HD platform.

The part-time channel will remain operational on the Freeview | HD service until after Wimbledon in July.

Great, so not only are they ruining the DVB-S with multiple dupicate TV One Feeds, but now they are taking away existing channels :(   (Not that there was much on the sports channel these days, but its nice to have the choice)

Come on Freeview!!! not every one can receive DVB-T

Email the Minister of Broadcasting with your complaints - Hon Dr Jonathan Coleman

Well in a couple of weeks it will disappear off DVB-T as well.

I'm at the old's place at the moment who have DVB-S, am pretty certain the picture qual on TV1 at least has improved within the last few weeks.
Looking at satcodx it also indicates an increase in bandwidth also for it

Looks like TV6 has taken a hit in bitrate in April also:

TV 7 also, but not as bad perhaps:

The satcodx5 samples are over too short a sample period. One show on TVNZ might average at 2Mbit and the next 3.5Mbit.

You’re correct, but the TVNZ feeds are still terrible compared to what they used to be, same goes for TV3 & C4 to a lesser extent.

The satcodx5 samples for TVNZ before April were much higher (these no longer show correctly on the graph)

Now there are rumours from Freeview that more channels are coming? Maybe this is only on Terrestrial Digital?

Other than the fact that it will make the 100,000 + existing freeview STBs break?

Any one else notice "Freeview, Crystal Clear Digital Quality Television" is now missing from the official Freeview website, its now "NZ's Favourite TV Programmes in Digital Quality" I guess "Digital" doesn't necessarily mean good, just digital.

Also the DVD quality is now "Near DVD Quality" although 'near VCD quality' might have been more fitting ;-)

Still no mention (or apology) for the TVNZ picture quality on the website (its been over 2 months!!!) maybe if they can update the other info (cover their a$$) they can update their FAQ.

Its better than doing it when theres 300,000+ , but thats the way they like to do things its like the sky deal they could of got prime or had there HD channels uncrypted but no they shoot themself in the foot.

Or non-freeview boxes.. There are almost no STBs in use in NZ today which handle DVB-S2

Note I said almost no.. Coupld of hundred units doesn' really count against 100,000 + DVB-S capable STBs.

Have you complained to

1. Freeview

2. TVNZ

3. Broadcasting complaints commission

4. Advertising standard authority?

Please feel free to go for it..
