Hi, the UP700HDMI will record only what you are watching or programming, the 980HD will record 2 channels and you can watch the third on the same transponder . The new UltraPlus 900HD will record 3 channels and watch another one from the same transponder and it would be the only HD satellite receiver available in NZ doing 1080p true HD and also browse the net. Price is cheaper than the UP980HD . Please user if anyone could name a better single tuner HD receiver than the UltraPlus 980HD which has all this functions ... and not compare twin tuner with a single tuner which costs double the price. We don't need to prove anything, just try it and don't be influenced by a single Feedback . Cheers

I'm not the one with a vested interest making an unsubstantiated claim.

That said, while I have not surveyed all single tuner devices on the market, and cannot comment on their relative merits, I can provide details of my own personal experience with the 980 HD.

Here's how it starts.
The first unit I received did not record multiple services from the same transponder; it was shipped with "old" firmware.
It did not respond to the remote when in standby to "awaken" it.
On returning it, the next 2 of 3 units had a similar power-up fault. The fourth seemed OK.
Incompatible with Mac networking out of the box; no documentation, and no retailer support.

Etc, etc, and a great deal more etc.

Sorry to hear about that however, you are the only one who complained about that. Just wondering why you did not contact us in the first place to solve any of these issues . Your feedback does not reflect the quality of the set but your opinion. I can assure you that we sold thousands of the UP980HD with almost no return of faulty goods (0.1%) and plenty of satisfied customers. We are giving 2 years warranty for a product which will work for years . Cheers

About which item? Does your comment mean that the fault exists, but nobody else complained, in which case, has it been fixed, or is it intended to imply that there is no such fault and that I was mistaken, incompetent, or acting maliciously?

No need to wonder. The first point of contact for consumer issues is the retailer, not the importer/manufacturer. I did ask that he forward my extensive list of issues to the supplier for comment and where appropriate, rectification. When a reasonable time (a month, or perhaps two - I'd have to check my records) had passed with no response, I sought a refund under the CGA.

A two year warranty is of little value where there are fundamental flaws of design or implementation.

Has that power-up issue been addressed? There was some suggestion that it was a temperature dependency.
Have you fixed the bug where it is not possible to record adjacent programs with recording margins and have the overlap present in both files?
Have you got to the bottom of the problem with recording markers not always showing on the EPG when they are present in the timer list?
How about the one where what gets recorded is from a time 12 hours different from that specified in the EPG - that is - the wrong program?
Have you made the unit compatible with probably the most common USB drive, the WD Elements range, or does it still lock-up after a recording much of the time?
Is it still using JFS, making it very hard to mount a disc formatted on the unit on any other system?
Is it still slicing files into 4GB chunks despite this only being a limitation with FAT32 and not JFS (or something more sensible, say ext2/3, or even NTFS)?
Have you fixed the requirement that it can only connect to WiFi networks where the SSID is being broadcast? (Oddly, that was correct in earlier versions, but the last firmware I used had eliminated this security feature.)

Dear Xargi, I don't trust that you have this set at all . We will not reply to any of your comments in this forum from now on. Please, contact us directly if you need to solve any issue and you really have the set on hand. We understand the concern of the competition not having a similar product to present in the market but it should not be dealt with by attacking our product in this forum . Cheers

I have no commercial interest in any aspect of the digital television broadcast industry, nor do any of my family, friends, or associates. My only involvement with it is as an end user.

I owned an Ultraplus 980HD for period of a few months in the middle of 2010. I used first the firmware as installed, and then the most up-to-date firmware available at the time.

I encountered a great many problems ranging from the trivial to the very significant indeed. I observed many of these on two different instances of the device, the first being returned due to its failure to awaken from standby by use of the remote control power button. Therefore, some of these problems at least would seem to have been flaws of design, software engineering, or manufacturing quality control.

A comprehensive document of some 20 pages length detailing these problems was supplied to the retailer with the request that it be forwarded to the manufacturer. This was not at all well received and I have no idea if it was in fact forwarded.

I have retained a copy of that document, together with a number of screenshots that illustrate some of the issues.

When a reasonable time for the faults to be rectified had elapsed, and with no productive response from the retailer I sought redress under the Consumer Guarantees Act and returned the unit for a refund, which I duly received.

I have no information concerning the reliability of the unit in its current hardware revision with the current version of firmware. Possibly, all of the issues I found have now been addressed. Even so, many were of such magnitude that, in my opinion, they should have been rectified before release for sale, not after, if indeed they have been rectified at all.

Due to this experience, I shall never again buy an Ultraplus product, but each potential purchaser must make this decision for themselves based on the information that they have, and their opinion as to the credibility of its source.

These are my experiences and my honestly held beliefs.

This review is a few month old, in the meantime this great product has added more functions and options in its firmware and is the most easy to use HD set in the market not to compare with the much more expensive and very complicated to use VU DUO+ In the end everyone can make up their own mind without being influenced by a single feedback.

The main problem as I see it as that xarqi had a series of faults and gave a list to a retailer. I believe the distributor might not have seen this list. I'd say the retailer just 'archived' it in the rubbish bin after you left, so it could be plausible the distributor doesn't even know these faults exist.

Perhaps you could take this offine now?

this 980 HD machine gets a big thumbs up from me i bought 2 from the agent a while back
top picture blind scan in 2 mins Aussie channels what more can anybody expect?
my Chinese receiver is in the rubbish!

I have no need to continue the issue "offline"; my goal was to counter claims made in public that were from a source with a vested interest, unsubstantiated, and radically different from my own experience, the better to serve the public good.

If you feel that the various points have been well made, and that purpose served, I'll post no more in this thread.

I offer my apologies to the original poster, whose question after all related to a different product, albeit of the same brand.

Hi, no complains about the adaptor, this was actually very good quality. Comment was about the socket in the back of the Ultraplus 700 unit itself, which had a fair bit of flex in it once a Scart plug was inserted.

The unit has a blind scan function though (on optus D2) it finds more channels on a standard scan where you enter TP's manually than when blind scanning which was a little disappointing.

For future reference for any other owner, this unit uses the more modern 980HD/9000 type remote control codes. There are some different keys but you can get the bulk of the main ones working by selecting those models on the harmony database etc.

Please advise which LNBF or Disq. switch brand are you using , some brands does not support blind scan perfectly.
We did blindscan using MTI 11.300 LNBF on Optus D2 just now and it gave us the complete channels and transponders which are on Optus D2 , afterwards we sccaned using Auto/manual option , there was no more channels to find .
Please try with a different LNBF/Disq. switch. Cheers

I do have a Diseq switch in the loop. I will check this tonight.

LNB is the standard Sharp Sky Dual unit.
