I'd recommend it for anyone not using 3.13beta6 - which has the convenient +10 -6 minute skipping.

No, the ffwd/frwd jumpiness is still the same. I'm wary that even the 3700 is the same too. I guess Pixel Magic have to rework the buffering mechanism, otherwise they'd have fixed the rather glaring problem years ago.

Thanks Digital Trading Co.. you failed... No response from the NZ or People in Hong Kong..

I can't make sense of that quote. It sounds negative but it doesn't form a coherent sentence. It's got a question mark at the end ... maybe it was meant to be "Really, don't you want to ask the people who actually have access to it?" As if to say: We don't have a clue, go ask Pixel Magic.

I wouldn't use firmware 3.16, it has some audio issues. I've been using the revised version, but I don't think that would make any difference. The issue I'm having is when I use the jump forward/back sometimes it comes out without audio, and I have to jump again to get it back. I just went back to 3.15 revised firmware and it's fine.

Yes.. it was quite a strange answer to me asking for the source code. From the answer I presume they don't really care they are breaking copyright.

Just made it mute jumping around using 3.15. But it took alot more to make it do it.

This is not my problem.. as the Australian Company are the distributors in Australia they have a legal obligation to follow the GPLv2 Licence.

The Same with the NZ company..

IANAL but you're probably right. The practical fact remains is that the manufacturer is highly unlikely to do so and they're the ones you do have to convince.

Also if you're not the rights holder or resident in Australia what right do you have to complain under Australian copyright law (yeah ok that's just a little bit trolly but you get the idea).

Still I guess high horses exist for a reason

Actually, more importantly, the contributions are sometimes useful. That's the whole point of the GPL.

I'm not disagreeing just the chances of getting a result out of people who don't actually have the source code is minimal. Pixel Magic in all likelihood don't give out the code to their distributors.

From the distrbutors point of view they may or may not be familiar with the GPL and as such may view you as a crank who sent them an email demanding what they may view as their suppliers IP (I'm NOT saying they are correct just this may be their view).

You can give the distributors as hard a time as you like but it probably won't get you a result. If you are happy to take them to court then possibly that may get an outcome - IANAL but I'm still not sure how you would do this given that none of us are the rights holder. Still don't see how that would work. I'd be interested to learn how it would work?

GPL is for public consumption. Chances of getting a result are as good as Lennon's expertises and the robustness of the legal system. That wouldn't change even if he was the rights holder.

My point is that my understanding of copyright infringement is that a claim under copyright law would have to come from the rights holder/s as that is who issues the GPL eula.

The analogy would be Micrsoft suing a 3rd party for infringing Apple's copyright on a piece of software. I would have thought that a court would tell Microsoft to go away as they have no legal claim over the IP. Apple however would have a legal claim directly.

I undertand the ethical obligation, just interested in how a 3rd party with no legal claim to the IP would take it forward.

Easy.. find someone who has something in the linux kernel.. lookiing at the kenrel there are quite a number of NZers who are listed . I just contact one of them

That would make more sense, probably what you should do if you can get someone like that on the case at least then they have direct rights.

Amyway I'll bow out of this now given we've already hijacked the thread somewhat. It'd probably be worth starting a parallel thread anyway given I'm fairly sure there would be more than a few others interested in discussing further and possibly could give you some practical advice. Just a thought.
