Somebody still has to pay to get the rights to those channels and then pay to broadcast them. NoNZ broadcaster will do that unless they can make a positive return on investment.
In Invercargill I has noticed most UHF aerials are pointing towards the Hedghope VHF repeater and the old prime UHF repeater, rather than pointing towards Forest Hill (Where Freeview UHF repeater is located). Would this mean most people haven't taken up Freeview, or has Sky dominated the households?
Love the TV3 plus1 channel - allowing me to watch the news when I get home at 7pm or start watching a programme from the start when I've realised I've tuned in half-way into the show, are there plans for other channels to add time-delayed duplicate channels like this?
Also are there any plans to provide internet TV, independently of the individual network offering of selected shows (ondemand, etc.)
Would be great to see a service that works with tablets, phones and Xbox!
I would like to know why more isn't being done about getting STB enabled TV's. My parents struggle with technology and they are due for a new TV would be great to get them a large TV with a built in STB/satelite recorder too bad the only ones that seem available are small and unknown brands.
With recent changes to epg data by mediaworks affecting how some PVR's and set top boxes worked, does this mean that any upgrades to the freeview system are severely limited by a lack of forward planning in hardware specification requirements? and hardware already in the field? Is there going to be the ability to run different transmission types with upgraded specs in conjunction with current transmissions?
Does Freeview have a position on the practice of single tuner Freeview receivers being marketed as PVRs? I know they are being bought by naive people who don't understand their deficiencies compared with a MyFreeview or MySkyHD+ recorder.

I don't take for granted the enormous investment (money and tech) by Freeview to deliver images to my goggle-box, and appreciate it enormously. My question is..... We live in an area deemed 'marginal' for terrestrial Freeview reception. Having said that, on a day with no wind or rain our built-in Freeview TV copes quite nicely. However it does tend to pixelate with rain or particularly wind on misty, drizzly (Wellington) days.
So when we lose the analogue signal, will the Freeview signal occupy and be boosted from the then redundant same transmitters? BTW We also have a satellite set-top-box (Not Sky) which delivers a clean signal unaffected by the weather.
Also this might be a silly question... Why is the digital signal interfered with in the wind? Is the signal literally blown around?

That sounds like a poor installation issue with your set up and your current signal level is on the working side of marginal when it is dry / still.
Going O/T how old is the installation and where abouts are you? Are you pointing the correct way and have the correct aerial too (UHF not VHF). Mightbe worth getting an installer to check your signal levels.

Thanks for your advice The installation is about 4-5yrs, new aerial at the time, pointing the right way, boosted. We don't even have a VHF aerial anymore, took it off as kept scratching my back on the clumsy old thing when getting on the roof to sort out a skylight issue. It's mainly been TV3 and Four we have issues with - different MUX?... Is that the correct term? Even the analogue TV3 (couldn't get C4 as it used to be called at all) and Prime reception was always a bit grainy and double imaged. But you can put up with that. Pixelation of the image on the other hand is unwatchable. It's just our location: Whitby in Porirua. I remember putting our address in the Freeview reception area guide thingy and we were listed as no reception/marginal or something like that. And when Freeview switched around a few things earlier in the year with Wellington frequencies I couldn't get 3,4 or Prime at all on Freeview. Posted something on their Facebook page and rang up the help line. Someone suggested taking any video (yes we still have a VHS for the kids movies LOL!) or DVDs out of the coax line. So it was clean from the aerial to TV. Did that and it worked, so have kept it clean with nothing else in line.
Funnily enough with all the Freeview reception issues we've had, Parliament TV has never been a problem? When something's going wrong I'll flick through other channels to see what's affected. Yet the most boring channel in the world is loud and clear!!! Such is life ;-)
Are there any extra restrictions/requirements for motels/hotels in the transition?
I was in Taupo at the weekend and the motel I stayed at had the analogue signals for tv1, 2 and 3 passed through + a few Sky channels. The Panasonic tv with built-in Freeview HD was not able to pick up any digital channels using their aerial system. Presume it would just be a matter of connecting up an UHF aerial and the signal would be available.
For establishments outside of the Freeview HD area, they would have to set up a dish + Freeview decoder, 1 per room.
Not sure if this is a question for the broadcasters or freeview but is there a plan to broadcast local versions of the channels? E.g. here in Wellington our tv1 seems to be filled with adverts for Auckland businesses.
