They would still need somewhere to broadcast the carousel which holds the app data..regardless of it being an Internet channel.

Does every Freeview certified TV have ethernet? I never noticed an ethernet port on our little 22" Samsung which from memory might be B450 something.

No. I may be completely wrong on the app/Internet thing.. It just seems odd that you willl ONLY be able to view it on a MHEG5 capable receiver.

According to Stuff this morning they will be using banner type advertising similar to web sites, that will be very irritating. I can't really see me watching this. It all smacks of amateurism.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Is that how the ads will be broadcast over the content, via MHEG5 hence the requirement for a Freeview certified TV/setop box?

Sommet Sports said on FB that the MHEG5 requirement is not for showing adverts.

Ok. I guess no one will know why until they launch. :) Weird.

It depends.  If it is banner advertising INSTEAD of ad breaks,  then I can see why that will work better for live sports.
I've lost count of the times I've been frustrated by adverts interrupting a cricketmatch or F1 race on normal free to air TV and then missing out on a critical event.  Would much rather have banner ads and see the whole game/race etc

Besides which, TVs are massive now. if they take a couple of inches of real estate I will still have massive picture :P

MHEG IC test channel is 600 - it used to have a menu that came up with some short clips.
It seemed like a hybrid that the menu page was freeview and the content streamed over the internet.

They seemed to remove the main screen and content late last year ....

Testing has begun from Sugarloaf. Scanned and found Sommet Sports on our AH3110 receiver (which doesn't support MHEG5). 720x576, but black screen and no sound so far. Will check again later.
