I thought Maori TV & Te Reo (SD) were currently either on World TV or Kordia mux?

Got to say it is exciting to see them out on their own mux now - with room for 2 additional SD channels on it too.

To be fair, I probably trust Maori TV to do something more interesting with the extra space than Kordia (open to any decent offers - mostly shopping/religious channels) or World TV (niche ethnic audience).

Great to see the additional capacity. MTS had a Mux reserved for some time but unused so there is still room for further expansion.

In my area the reception on the MTS Mux is far better than on the WTV or previously used Kordia Mux for Maori TV, even though it is on a higher frequency. It would be great to see a power boost of Waiatarua to deal with some outlying areas.

So this now means Freeview is spread over 5 UHF channels (in most areas)? I hope the likes of Panasonic release new HDD recorders with more than 2 tuners

You are optimistic about the number of things worth recording.

First time using Samsung TV/Freeview this week and got the prompt to re-scan.  A few observations from what I've looked at...

1) I'm not getting Audio for the 2 MTS HD Channels.  Anyone else?

2) All MUX's in AKL are now allocated (7)...

3) Can't see any more HD channels coming (Bravo/Duke etc) as TVNZ, MW, MTS, Kordia & WTV are all maxed out (HD-wise) and the MTS change will only free up 2 SD's from Kordia.  This is unless Sky do something (which they should)!  PRIME, another HD (Choice?) and a few SD's would = some more income for them and better options for viewers.  Or Kordia use their 2nd AKL Only MUX to do something different to the rest of the country?

4) Bravo is produced in HD, but is not HD anywhere on FV/Sky.  It is only available in HD on their live Internet Stream.

5) I'm biased I know, but I personally think Chorus's Multicast offering over UFB is under-utilised / not utilised.  If someone was to set up a Wholesale offering (Freeview?) this could potentially provide all channels in HD without the 1:1 bandwidth issues with streaming over the Internet!?

6) Please can we focus on the technology on this forum, not the content.

Unless all freeview certified equipment does DVB-T2, it is unlikely to happen. Australia had a similar issue that Freeview (Australia) equipment only needed to support MPEG-2. When the Seven Network introduced 7flix in MPEG-4 there were a lot of people that were unavailable to receive the channel, and they eventually switched the channel back to MEPG-2. As of December, the only MPEG-4 channels in Australia are the HD channels, and they all have a MPEG-2 SD simulcast (before that the then ABC News 24 channel was MPEG-2 HD)

If you look at the current range of set-top boxes available for sale they all appear to support DVB-T2 (and S2 for the satellite ver), even our Sony Android TV (2015 ver) could pick up the Igloo channels which I believe was broadcast using DVB-T2 so the problem of getting people with older boxes to upgrade may not be that bad

You are dreaming!  It is only in the last year or so that equipment comes with DVB-T2 by default, and that has only happened because no-one really makes DVB-T only chips any more.  Think of how many TV there are that are DVB-T only.  DVB-S2 is a bit different - it has been around a lot longer than DVB-T2.  But even there, with Sky swapping all their boxes for DVB-S2 capable ones for free, they have been having trouble getting all their customers to do the upgrade so that they can change to DVB-S2 for everything.

I am interested in knowing more about this. Where do you find information about the uptake rate and is there a planned cut-off date?

Thanks for this.

My aerial is pointed at the Sky Tower but there's nothing showing up on 610MHz yet. I'm getting a weak signal from Waiatarua - can confirm there's no currently audio. Test channels are 1080i but content appears to be 576p.

MTS have just refreshed their MUX and removed the AC3 audio.

Sky MUX is currently empty with Igloo off air.

There still appears to be a spare Kordia Mux on 522Mhz with just a single placeholder channel. The  question is who's going to pay for the additional capacity to run a HD channel?

All 4 Maori TV mux channels have audio now here in Lower Hutt - and it looks like the power may have been turned up (no glitches here now)

The HD Maori TV & Te Reo are looking great. No EPG loading for any of the channels yet.
