The stream links shouldn't really even be in the code at all, it would've been fairly easy to just fetch a playlist of stream links off a server when the app starts. Because as of right now, since the stream links are hardcoded into the app, they would need to send out an app update to resolve the current issue -- if a stream link happened to change or go down, then users would have to wait for an app update from the Play Store which would contain new links.

It's a clunky system at best, (edit) even if the links are legit

The stream links having references to a third party address is a security risk at best.

A quick test using the Amazon app tester https://developer.amazon.com/app-testing-service indicates that maybe this would work on an Amazon Fire TV...

For the record the modified apk wont install on a gen 1 Amazon Fire TV.

It errors with "Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK]"

Looking around it seems maybe this means it is compiled for a later version of android - The Gen 1 Fire TV uses FireOS 5.2.6.7 - which appears to be Lollipop 5.1.1

I think the version of Android is too old.

The latest devices run Android 7.1 so maybe they would be ok.

Guess it didnt cost anything to try...

I think the app is terrible and clunky. Matt huisman other setup is soo much better, it Intergrates with the streaming channels on the Sony bravia, currently only Google play movies trailers is on the app, you use an app called tvirl to connect to streaming channels app then u use matthuissman android TV settings from his website, and it's like mint.

On generic android TV stb this app is called live TV.

All buttons work, channel up/down, numbers, the TV button to take you back to TV if in a app like YouTube or whatever,

Haaaah, not surprised at all. But they do need to make up for there marketing, app development etc costs.. But you would have thought they could have at least gone for the 2GB model, guess they're saving that for v2 of the product.

And to be fair, it's not like anyone else has made an as easy to use plug and play NZ tv streaming box. As much as I think it's it's a piece of rubbish for what you pay, I do see the value for other non-technical people (or people who don't want to mess around with adding urls and stuff).

Matt Huisman should start bulk ordering these and preconfiguring them with TVIRL and the normal android Live TV app.

I'd be tempted to bring them in and set them up, but Matt's done all that work. I'm sure they'd sell for $50 a pop.

One would assume that DishTV would be liable under the CGA to maintain the stream sources.
