I think I'll wait until I can get a HDD / Blue Ray rec /player. Just like the cheap Video / DVD recorders on the market now. At least with these you can edit out the commercials and trim the top and tail of a recording. With the ext HDD units you are talking about, all they do is record or time slip.
I too have now received my eXtra Terrestrial receiver thanks to Jaxson here at Geekzone The unit was in a well presented box and packaged well. Upon opening it..I was surprised how much better/smaller the unit looked compared to photo's on the net. A nice shiny/sleek black unit(the photo's didn't do it justice). Inside came an Instruction manual(Hardly needed it), Component Cables(Digital HD) and RCA Cables (Analog) I too did not receive a HDMI cable with this unit. I did however have a spare here at home. Once all connected to my 50" Plasma, I powered it up and within a minute or so I was watching a HD braodcast on TVONE of the Olympics. OUTSTANDING Picture ! I couldn't believe the difference between TVONE through our digital sky decoder and the eXtra Terrestrial HD receiver. No comparison! I kept switching between the two set top boxes and was saying YUK ! everytime I viewed it through SkyTV. I just won't be able to watch Sky broadcasts anymore its just so badly compressed. I never realised how much Sky compress's their broadcasts with degraded picture quality. FREEVIEW HD coupled with this eXtra Terrestrial HD receiver is great value for money... with a higher quality picture/sound all round. Another thing I noticed is the eXtra Terrestrial runs very cool and I'm told consumes less power than say the Zinwell HD receiver. I was in a store yesterday and touched the later....Very Hot ! So...In short the eXtra Terrestrial HD receiver looks to be the best and cheapest HD Freeview set top box on the market. RECOMMEND.
Alas, no HDMI cable. Will check it out and give you a run down on the comparison with a Zinwell/DSE unit and a new one the AV guys I use suggested, the Visione.

After a little more settling in time...I'll review the pro's and con's of the eXtra Terrestrial. At the moment I'm just spellbound at the High Definition picture quality from Freeview HD.
Hey guys, glad your units have arrived. I'm away for work this week so I can't test mine until Friday night. I bought the DSE one earlier so I can now compare the two. Reports from everyone I've supplied have been really positive so I'm feeling a bit better about sending these on before I'd checked them. Yes apparently no hdmi in earlier shipments but can get these fairly cheap at a local computer shop etc. Glad component leads included so you can at least make a start!
I've another order arriving soon due to demand so let me know if anyone is interested. Courier seemed to get out to these guys pretty quick so all good. For the price, can't go wrong here I feel, because $350+ for TV was still out of my range.

I don't have a uhf aerial however so have purchased one of there panel indoor ones, anyone know how it will work? It should be arriving late today/early tomorrow.
The Aerial arrived today,.. plugged it into the unit then connected the hdmi to my t.v and then also added a cable into the loop on the back of the t.v and connected to t.v.......

Went into set up turned on power to provide power for the indoor antenna pressed ok to auto tune and......
Its not finding any signal! Have it right up on window sill as well (antenna) =[ Not very happy....

I assume you dont have an external UHF antenna you can use? I cant really comment on the internal antennas as I have not used them before, I guess though it is directional, is it pointing towards the place where your signals are transmitted from?
I'm not lol is the closest signal Hamilton? I was just pointing it to the window... could the signal pass through walls? I could face it towards hamilton... although i'm pretty sure its in the general direction
