Prime TV

PlayTV would be one of the largest selling DVB-T PVR’s in New Zealand, PlayTV is an add on for the PS3 converting the PlayStation 3 into a HD PVR, now since the device has been on the market it is missing the 7 day EPG content from all the Prime TV listings. Is there any update on this? One of the fantastic features PlayTV has is “community favourites” which is a real time “people meter” on any pa...rticular night there are hundreds on line in New Zealand, in real time you do see all the networks and it shows some very interesting statistics which I am sure in particular Prime TV would be interested in, due to the EPG not fully functional “community favourites” is also not fully functioning which is putting a poor light on the ratings. We have also put together a poll "Get Prime and MediaWorks onto PlayTV EPG!!" the poll is on going and as you can see it has gathered momentum http://doodle.com/dmx3kgztwfnp3pts
There is also a very active forum running on Geekzone http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=96060&page_no=1 regarding this matter.
Would be interested in your comments.

Can the general public be assured everything is being done to sort out this issue?

I had the same issue when I contacted them all directly about it.

Not even a "Thank you we've received your email" email.

Kind of frustrating eh

Well that is quiet disappointing, I have had no reply from ANYONE, it has especially surprised me SCE NZ did not get back to me. Oh well at least we tried, my suggestion is we keep voting on the doodle vote and voice our dismay on Face Book and other social media outlets.

That sounds blunt as, but it's simply not worth the hassle for the number of units that will be sold. With that new VITA playstation thing you'd think they'd be pushing the tie in to get freeview on it if you have a PS3 with PlayTV etc, but quite simply they are not.

For very similar money you could get a real twin tuner TIVO PVR with wireless connectivity, 2 week EPG, online booking and a 500GB hard drive.

Possibily a good reason not to buy those brands. Buy a tivo instead.

Perhaps there's light at the end of the tunnel.

My PlayTV installation screwed up last night (was adding an echo to recordings)

Today I uninstalled everything and reinstalled PlayTV to fix the problem. When it came to setting up tvtv mappings with the channels I noticed they had TV3, TV3 Plus and Prime in the list, FOUR was missing however.

Saddly when it came to going into the Guide no data was listed for those channels.

Hopefully they're testing things and we'll see some EPG data come through soon.

I see the tvtv mappings are still there (and even include prime), and in fact on the tvtv site you can see the channel listings too

But still nothing coming through on PlayTV. This suggests the data is there, but just Sony are blocking it when it gets either to the PS3 or their intermediary site.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone had tried to log/track the playtv tvtv EPG data requests from the PS3 and see if there is any way to intercept the requests and provide the extra channels data (tv3, prime, etc) ourselves. I guess there is a very high chance the requests are encrypted or conducted in a way that doesn't allow this, but it might be worth giving it a quick try. I have given this a go myself, but my router (Orcon Genius) doesn't support logging, and I tried to use Wireshark, but didn't seem to pickup the PS3 traffic at all (although I didn't really know what I was doing with Wireshark). Has anyone ever looked into this at all?

If you set up a proxy on your PC and then set the PS3 to use the proxy you would be able to see the requests the ps3 is making to tvtv via wireshark

Then you could use the proxy to redirect those requests to your own data.. something that i think i might look at doing

Good point on the proxy approach - might try to give it a go later this weekend if no one else has already attempted it, although I am bit of a novice on the networking side of things.

If, and its a very big if, we can intercept the requests and view/change the data, etc - we should be able to scrape the actual missing channel data from the tvtv site.
