If you can't receive even a noisy picture on the current UHF analog channels  e.g. Prime or Maori, your chances of getting Freeview HD are probably slim. However, you''ll probably get HD as long as the analog results are poor to mediocre.

I could only see analog channels 2-3 very noisy!, I'm thinking to try and return the antenna if possible and then invest in a brand new uhf.

If you need some help, including supply of a UHF aerial, I may be able to help you, i'd have to charge but I could work something out.

If you want to do it yourself, DSE sells UHF aerials as does Jaycar electronics in Frankton, Hamilton (a bit cheaper), or even plenty on Trademe.

In terms of setup, as you won't have a signal meter. Either look around the houses near you and see where their UHF aerials point (hopefully all in the same direction), or if you have the extra resource, plug the aerial into the STB (use RG6 coax) and use its signal strength meter to "tune" the aerial as you slowly move it around (outside on a high point if possible) until you find the strongest point. Then mount it on the roof pointing in that direction.

Antennas.....must be at  right angles to transmission site...i.e. panel faces into direction of transmitter...

Also you might find that transmission where you are is vertical...as is sky tower...so panel must be mounted sideways....
contact the supllier..satlink..I am sure he will help you...as he has with mine...works fine.!!!.

Hey guys,

Yes I'm pretty serious on my customer service so I have asked supplier for missing hdmi cables.  If not I may be able to source very cheap ones.  I will see what I can do Jason, just glad unit arrived quickly after having to go courier post slow to you.

The units seem to be getting a good reception so I'm happy about that.  I wished I could check them prior to sending on to you but I'm away so it's all good they work well.

PM me if you're interested, I'll see what I can do but will be able to beat trademe price etc.  The people I supply to have given good feedback so I'm pleased about that.

I can help with install and aerials etc if you live close to Palmerston North.  Like other's I'd have to charge with my time, but I can sort you out.

Great website this, how we can all help each other out.  These products are worth what we on geekzone charge, NOT what is in the retail stores etc.  It's a complete ripoff to the public and it's good to be able to supply at fair rates to our own members!

Hi Jaxson,

Yes, please see about the HDMI cables. I appreciate the price you sourced these at. Sorry if I came off sounding a bit grumpy - hard day in the office!

Hi all,

I'm keen to buy one from someone in Auckland who will definitely still be in business when the expected firmware update to allow PVR functionality comes through in a month and a half (or so?). An takers/suggestions - cheers

Re: The ET Freeview box.
I'm on the North Shore in Auckland, have been in business since 1985, and expect to be here another 15 years at least. In addition, I've been a qualified technician in the AV and computer fields since 1977, so have a fair amount of experience to help out if necessary. I'll PM you with my details, and can provide a very competitive deal, with pickup or NZ wide shipping of the excellent ET box. I'm an enthusiastic HD fanatic and have a collection of 150+ HD-DVD's, a lot less blu rays, and love my Benq W5000 1080P projector. BTW, this is also a product you can buy through me at "USA street prices" but with full NZ 2 year warranty, support and firmware upgrades here in my workshop.

Love the Extra Terrestrial HD receiver. My friends which are selling these receivers on Trademe but Im sure would sell to anyone here (Glogoods 021 136 6086) include a sheet of useful setup tips which addresses one of the issues mentioned before on this forum. I'll share it with you.

Setup to Display correct width pictures to suit your TV (if wide screen LCD or Plasma)
- Press RES or ASPECT button on remote
- DISPLAY FORMAT - Set to Full Screen
- TV Sceen format set to 16:9
- Resolution - IMPORTANT set to either 720 or 1080
(depending on YOUR TV screens vertical resolution)
DONT SET TO AUTO!!!!!!

However need more channels. Cant bear to look at Freeview Satellite now. Isnt it funny what one thought was pretty good until HD came along.

Useful Freeview Guide here:

Sports Extra Guide here:

The TOTAL  TVNZ coverage on it FOUR CHANNELS (worth printing out)
http://tvnz.co.nz/content/1985383

As a sideline on can setup a dish to receive Kuiwate TV off the Sky tower also has Olympic coverage abit in Arabic but one can turn the sound off. Actually I just point the LNB at the sky tower and make sure the connector points to about 1 oclock to work!!  Fregs:
12338V, 122302V, 12338V,  sr 27500  Fec 7/8  There are 18 channels up there for FREE including Aljazzera, NASA, TV5 french and a host of Indian and Pakestan channels.  Believe some of these will be encryted soon. NASA and Aljazzera english and TV5 have always been free. Kuite TV has most of its stuff live and its funny to see how TVNZ delays stuff to cutout heats not relevant to NZ compeditors.Wink
