Rotorua UHF - Samsung TV - rescanned
nothing on channel list, entering 114 manually results in 'service not available'

Will try Tivo after dinner

KiwiNZ: Sommet is showing on our Tivo and bedroom TV but not on igloo.

Did you have to rescan the TiVo or did it just turn up??  Checked mine tonite and nothing on 14 or 114..

Nothing on Tivo yet either. I really hope that this channel comes to Rotorua, and is not squeezed out by our two local channels.

Different Tivos seem to behave differently. I have three at home (Wellington). Two did not show Sommet even when selecting channel 114 manually. Therefore I did a channel add for the Kordia Frequency and they both listed Sommet Sports on channel 114. However if I select channel 114 I still get black with no sound. The third Tivo showed Sommet with the colour bars, logo and tone without needing a re-scan/channel add but on channel 356. This Tivo (but not the other two) also shows the Chinese TV channel TV33 on channel 354 even though this is supposed to be blocked from all transmitters outide the Auckland area.

Hopefully when they unhide the channel in the service information and move to channel 14 (next week hopefully??) it will become visible on all the Tivos. Still curious about what the lack of MHEG-5 will mean for viewing Sommet on Tivos (apart from having no EPG).

someone said it doesn't show up on igloo. Sky are blocking it and have no plans for this channel to be shown.

Remember if you are in a JDA area chances are you wont get the test pattern. It is not going to be on JDA until they do a full launch, this is just a soft launch due to their ongoing financial woes.

oh and for internet style adverts, if they place them in the right place then zooming in the screen should take care of them Laughing

I cant see why they would block a freeview channel on igloo.
I think the igloo box is a freeview (terrestrial) tuner with a decoder for their own specially locked content.

The channel has not been officially launched - hence the fact it didnt just show up on peoples tvs.
It seems most have done a rescan - then you have to know to go to 114.

When a channel is 'officially' on freeview they just seem to usually appear all by themselves.

Maybe just wait a bit until they launch - unless Sky have actually said they will block it on igloo?

Its probably a different issue if sky wont carry it on statellite though that actually costs them to broadcast....

actually it looks like they have changed their position, last week on the igloo facebook page they were not interested in sommet, stating they would not get it, only interested in having their sports channel, this week with people's constant questions they are saying they are in talks with sommet.

the channel is actually doing two launches as they have stated, a soft launch which will be for kordia area's, and a full launch when they are in a better financial position which will be when JDA is included.  It will not be until they do a full launch that there will be complete programng.   Perhaps you should focus on what they are actually saying if you do not know.  If you did you would also know that Sommet have no intention on being on sky and want to remain freeview only, not carried as part of sky's freeview channels either.

Interesting - so the igloo box isnt an 'approved' freeview box with extras for Sky - If it was I would think it would have to allow ordinary freeview channels (sommet) by default.

Dont like the sound of them deciding what freeview channels they will/wont allow....

The Igloo box is an Igloo box. The fact that it receives the Freeview channel feeds could almost be considered coincidental. Convenient for the broadcasters and frequency spectrum efficiency, but nothing more. It doesn't support the Freeview EPG.

This is Sky we're talking about here. Wink
But... it would be pretty bad press if they don't include it. As I recall, their local billboard and ads say "all the free to air channels..." so you might even be able to say it is false advertising if they don't include Sommet.
In some ways I hope they do say no so I can watch it come back and bite them.

If the Igloo box doesn't support MHEG5, then it might not be able to view Sommet Sports.
