It would appear that new T2200's are still being sold with the defective remote. If Dish TV are accepting that the original remote has a "fault with the IR", shouldn't they be replacing them for existing owners?

Has anyone purchased a Gen 2 remote? I understand this works better than the original and has more functionality than the generic Gen 3 remote but less than the original. I believe there is no Schedule button but is anything else missing that is essential or would it be a good replacement for the original?

Groucho: I'm curious as to why you've also bought a T2200?

My wife of 37 years is as stubborn as they come and although I have shown her how good MythTV is her stubborn streak kept saying that she would miss her TiVo.

For $199 from the Warehouse I have at least made an effort to appease her.

To be honest, I think that it was $199 well spent. Nearly as good as TiVo (nowhere near as good as MythTV though)

Bananabob: I read somewhere that you need Windows to set the Harmony 650 up. Is this so? And has anyone managed to get it to work using Linux?

I would also like a Linux method. Here is a quote from their website.....

Harmony has moved away from a website application and now leverages either the MyHarmony desktop software and/or Harmony smartphone app, depending on your remote. The website login has been phased out.

This was done to eliminate issues related to browser plug-in issues and increasing browser security policies. All existing account information still exists and is accessible by downloading and signing in to the new software.

I just got one on the weekend, you need to download an application from the Logitech website, once installed you sign in so it saves your settings and you do all the config in the app. not sure about any other OS systems im just runnning Win10

How does the T2200 prevent itself from recording duplicates of the same episode? A guy at Panasonic told me their unit is based on what is already saved on disk, if the episode isn't already on the disk it'll get recorded.

That's what the T2200 does. It works for avoiding recording +1 channels, and those 'catchup/encore' screenings that TVNZ and/or TV3 do occasionally. Unfortunately that means that if a program screens say on Sunday, we watch it on Tuesday, delete it ... then it pops back up again when the repeat screening broadcasts. Same thing with those channels - eg Choice, HGTV - that repeat shows a lot.

Our Panasonic HDR - which still runs but we use only very rarely - went one better. It records the EPG series/episode numbers and keeps that information even after the recording itself is deleted. This does mean that if there is some fault (interference,power cut) with the broadcast then there is no way to rebook it without (I think) deleting the recording schedule and re-adding it.

SageTV in my case. My box has been running almost non-stop since 2005 (and still is). No need to clean up the disks. It knows what you like and what you watch and prioritises the deletions to make space for the next recording.

Like you I only got my Dish T2200 to appease SWMBO

Let's not get started on Comskip....

I received my Gen2 remote today, on initial play it seems to be a marked improvement on the original.

It is sold as a learning remote, and I want to use it to control my TV volume, mute, and power, but I don't know how to set it to learning mode. Anyone able to shed any light?

@benz1 you should be able to use the learning function to overwrite a lesser-used button (help, subtitles, TV/radio etc) with the 'schedule' button of the original

I have Gen 2 and love it, button placement far more user friendly! Not aware of it being a learning remote though, still annoyingly need to turn tv on/off with separate remote. Keen to hear anything different!

Received the below from DishTV. This is for the Gen2 remote, which can have any button reprogrammed from another remote

Programming Instructions:

Place the Learning Remote and the TV Remote Control on a flat surface, 3cm apart and with the emitters facing each other.
Press and hold both the 1 and OK buttons for 3 seconds until the POWER button on the Learning Remote flashes slowly twice.
Release the 1 and OK buttons, the POWER button will now be lit. The Learning Remote is now in “learning mode”.
Press a button you want to programme (VOL UP for example) on the Learning Remote. The POWER button will flash once, though remain lit.
Press and hold the corresponding button (VOL UP) on the TV Remote, until the POWER button flashes slowly twice.
Repeat Steps 04 and 05 for any required buttons (VOL DOWN).
When finished - press and hold both the 1 and OK buttons for 1 second, until the POWER button on the Learning Remote flashes slowly twice. The Learning Remote will exit “learning mode”.

I bought the logitech harmony 650 yesterday. Works great with Dish TV and the other items I have. I have it replacing 4 remotes now. I had another remote which was bad the WD TV Live which was like the Dish Tv one. Had to aim it at it to make it work but the harmony fixed that. I got it going with my new LG TV as well but it doesn't do the pointer on the screen like the LG smart remote does but all the the other functions are there.

It works great and I replaced 4 remotes with one now :)

@gregv thank you so much. I've been hunting the web on how to program the gen2 remote. I'll try this later.
Hopefully I can program the sony amp on there as well.
Loving the gen2. Very responsive.

I would like to apologise in regards to the original remote, this remote is still being shipped with the unit and the option of the newer remotes can be purchased on the Dish TV website. the new remotes were designed based on the feedback from customers of the Original remote and have had positive feedback since selling these. The photo I made up was to clarify the different versions of the remote to make it easier to identify.

I apologise for any confusion,
