Thanks everyone for your responses and the discussion.
So far so good for the box so far. The only I might investigate is a newer generation remote.
As I write today, TiVo is still up and running - probably a soft (crash) landing soon.....sob...

I have a brand new Gen 3 Dish TV remote that I bought but didn't use if you are interested.

It takes away all the rifle barrel sighting of the one supplied and works from any angle.

Its the small tivo looking one on DishTv's site.

I have bought 2 Dish TV T2200 three weeks ago as backup to replace my tivos.  I now know this model is being replaced next year.  Wished I knew that before I bought mine. I hope Dish TV will update their existing customers with this new freeview firmware that is being launched.  Also on this forum in the past we have talked about how Dish TV does not have an the app for Netflix.  If Dish TV can now do Netflix when it launches it new model next year, will us existing customers get the netflix app as well.  I will be very diappointed if we don't considering I only bought my dish tv units 3 weeks ago.

I have one of my dish tv units connected by HDMI to my Sony Receiver which is connected to my LG tv by HDMI (ARC).

Have some questions about what settings I should use.

With audio settings, I have HDMI Out set to Auto, but with the Spdif Output Mode: Uncompressed or Compressed.  What is the difference between Uncompressed and Compressed and what one should I choose?

With video settings, what Resolution should I use to watch free to air tv, 1080i50 or 1080i60 or should I just upscale it to either 1080p50 or 1080p60.  Also what is the difference between 50 or 60, is it up to my tv to which one it can take?  I know the tv channels are broadcast in 1080i.  Would it look better if upscaled?

If you can send audio via HDMI then don't bother with SPDIF output as there's no difference with both being digital.  The only snag is with TVNZ1, TVNZ2 and Three make sure while watching each channel you press the Audio button on each channel and ensure it comes up with AC3 (Dolby Digital) if your receiver supports it.  I found my receiver only received PCM (two channel stereo) audio by default until I pushed the Audio button on the T2200 remote to select the Dolby audio (AC3) track.  This needs to be done for each HD channel.

If you are using SPDIF output I'd highly recommend uncompressed.  Compressed audio basically amplifies the quiet bits and quietens the louder bits so averaged out everything sounds pretty much the same volume like commercial radio stations.  The downside is audio of someone talking can sound like they're gasping between sentences because the quiet bits of them breathing are amplified.  In the other direction it means if you're watching an action movie it means explosions don't wake people up as in theory they are quietened to be the same level as people talking.

The 1080p or i should ideally match the highest resolution setting your TV can handle.  It should also be 50 as this is the standard frame rate for broadcast in NZ.

@DishTV

I had asked this some months back but it may have got lost in the lengthy discussion on the merits of various controllers and Josh moving on.

Why does the box randomly decide to drop requests for series recording? We have a number set up but occasionally the series recordings stop and the and recording requests have to be re-instated.

A suggestion for an improvement. When a series recording is selected could we have an option to select the number of episodes to be recorded? either "All" or a number, say 1-16? For example, we record One News in the evening and we only really need the past couple of episodes, not an ever increasing number. Same thing for soaps. A function like this would help manage disk space by automatically deleting all the older copies from the disk.

@doubletop

I suspect that problem you refer to about dropping series recording is a fault of the EPG gi=uide & not your unit. I get the same problem with two Panasonic units.

Tivo never drops any of my series link records. They are all still there and working even after the mod chip upgrade.

The T2200 I had used to stop recording them after a while as well for no reason at all.

The TiVo does not get it's EPG data from the same source as MyFreeview recorders. I am very familiar with TiVo & the mothership connection over internet etc but all other "MyFreeview" recorders such as the DishTV range & the Panasonic range receive their EPG data over the terrestrial or Satellite transmissions.

Likewise, my SageTV has never dropped any scheduled recording request. At times it may not record an item if (say) the programme title in the EPG has changed, even in a subtle way. However, with the T2200 and no change to the EPG the recording request just goes missing and using the same EPG source my SageTV will continue to record the programme and has done year after year.

A further question. If all the recordings of a series are bulk deleted does the recording request get deleted? I don't think it does and I believe I may have checked that. Again a "Keep x recordings" function would be useful.

It would be good if the DishTV crew could tell us what is supposed to happen and we can establish whether it is working correctly or not

Hi There, the best option here would be to contact our support team at Support@DishTV.co.nz they will be able to shed some light on how the unit records and what could be causing this. We also welcome all suggestions, I will forward this information to the software team to see if there is much that can be done regarding more user management that can be added around how the unit records and deletes older recordings.

Is anyone else experiencing an issue where there's no audio for the Freeview Plus apps?
