JarrodM:
cripster56: I did a channel scan for new channels tonight on my transonic aqnd it shows the summet sports but i can't find it once the scan is done.

it's hidden. so you've got to manually go to channel 114

Thanks i saw it on 114 like you said, is freeview going to get channels like hearlad and kidzone since they are both tvnz?

I tried rescanning my Pana TV to see if it'd come up...nothing.

It doesn't scan, you need to type in channel 114, here in Hawke's Bay (on a Panasonic)

Unlikely - it might be a TVNZ channel, but it's a channel which was put together for Sky, who pay tvnz for the rights. (no matter what your position on the 'ownership' of those rights - public vs tvnz)

I can't see the channel on my freeview tv, or in NextPvr (ie, I can't type 114 / 14 into my tv)

I keyed in 114 and got the test pattern in New Plymouth.  My son happy because apparently TNA wrestling is going to be on it.  Laughing

Has anybody yet worked out why they're saying it won't work without MHEG5 support?

Can confirm that the test pattern others report is not watchable via Windows Media Centre on Windows 8 from Sugarloaf. The channel does not appear on the EPG as per its current hidden status.

Manually selecting channel 114 via the numeric keypad will cause media centre to tune the channel and the channel name is displayed without any program information. Niether video or audio from the test card broadcast is rendered, Media Centre just holds the final frame in the buffer before the re-tune and no audio is heard.

Not sure if what I'm seeing is related to Media Centre's lack of NZ MHEG or something else, but you get nothing in Media Centre.

Might try dumping the transport stream to see if I can find anything interesting once I remember the name of the software I had installed for doing that.

[Edited to fix a mistake. There is no audio on channel 114 in media centre]

Just a quick update:
Managed to view the test pattern just fine in VLC. Not sure what exactly Media Centre dislikes about the current broadcast, though I don't think the lack of MHEG support would stop media centre viewing the test pattern as this appears to be just audio and video rather than anything generated with MHEG based on the fact that VLC displays the test pattern, and also lacks any MHEG support as far as I'm aware.

Not sure about windows 8 MCE but I can confirm that you can view the test signal in Win 7 mce.

First you key in 114 manually when in live TV. The screen will go black. Press the stop button and and it will take you to the home screen. Select the live tv button and it wil bring up the Sommet sport test signal and the annoying sound.

That worked as described. Interesting that it won't just switch to it directly though.

I'm getting the same thing in 7MC, the channel does not scan or appear by itself in the guide. However the program My Channel Logos seems to know it's there and is saying there is no logo loaded for the channel yet. I have a sky stb plugged in to my htpc so if I key in 114 it defaults to channel 114 on the stb rather than freeview (which is C4)
