Is there something going on with 2Degrees / Snap DNS servers (namely ns1 an ns2.snap.net.nz)?

I've been doing some domain changes and setup work and it's been nearly 24 hours and those servers are still returning nil results. Cloudflare and Google DNS have picked up the changes as well as Slingshot DNS.

I have to say my luck with Snap / 2degrees DNS picking up changes has been hit or miss historically. I've seen changes propagate within 30 minutes and sometimes 12 hours, but this is the first time I have seen it lag this far behind other DNS servers?

111.69.69.68 (resovler02.2degrees.nz)
111.69.69.69 (resovler01.2degrees.nz)

I can confirm 2degrees is giving me the same IPs as nzkc.

Thanks - yes, those are picking up the DNS changes so it seems ns1.snap.net.nz is lagging behind.

However, that is what is automatically issued to my router / modem when I authenticate. Sure, I can go through and manually override, but I'd prefer not to.

Is there any way to get 2Degrees to fix this properly?

2degrees have separated the Resolver and Authoritative functions, so NS1 and NS2 are for Authoritative, please use the new resolver servers the others have mentioned and are given out to all customers now. They should also provide better performance as they are wider distributed around the country to provide minimal latency.

Looks like my router was not picking up the new DNS servers, but after refreshing the settings it's now pulling down

Those servers are showing the DNS change propagations that I made yesterday which is great. I would note that ns1.snap.net.nz is still not picking up any of the DNS changes I have made so there is some misalignment lag happening on the older servers. Not sure how much of a concern that is, but they do look pretty stale.

Something I noticed for the new resolvers (anycast) is they are more latent for me than old ns1/2/3 anycast addresses. I added them today to smokeping - https://smokeping.thenet.gen.nz/smokeping/smokeping.cgi?target=Local.2dNSanycast. @pwner @morganbrowne - Is there a routing issue to them as I'm seeing ~19.2 ms vs ~2.5ms to old from CHCH which suggests they are going to another city?

It may well be.. and potentially makes sense as the new recursive clusters are in the same locations as the CGNat appliances.

Some of this is beyond my understanding, but I have a fixed IP and in the last week or so I've had a couple of weird things, like setting up a new ipad, i got a warning that the ipad I was trying to transfer to was located in Chrsitchurch, when I am near Auckland, and then yesterday, loggin into a microsft account and getting a warning of suspicious log in from Sydney, but then when I checked, it said it was in Chrsitchurch. And now I'm having trouble connecting to my Plex server remotely. Related?

Nope/unlikley - There are many databases across the globe that think they know where specific IP addresses are geographically located. ISPs move IP addresses around based on growth/needs and therefore keeping this information up to date in all databases is problematic. The issue we are talking about was DNS changes being slow to be picked up, using the right (new) DNS servers at 2degrees and then a discussion about latency to the new DNS servers compared to the old.
