So my son is down in the dumps due to facing really high ping on his game of choice (Valorant); he's normally on the Sydney server, where in the last couple of days it's gone up from around 39 to 300. Apparently no change in typical ping to other servers like Singapore. As per this thread and my own earlier post, he hit this problem a few weeks back too.

We've gone through the various checks suggested by the Valorant help desk (using Ethernet; changing DNS etc), but it's no better. There's been no change to our home networking in that time, but there has been a recent update to Valorant - that said, he also reports high ping to the Aus CSGO servers.

I noticed the thread of high ping to US servers over the weekend, but wondered if others have noticed recent problems with Australia?

Also, can anyone advise what my best way of providing 2D with evidence of this? That other thread suggests 'race routes/ping results would be useful to assist 2d in working through routes/peering etc', so what should I provide them when I lodge a fault?

Edit:

Does the following help, or do I need to get the kind of info on that thread? (And, if so, what's the best way to do that?)

Thanks heaps.

That looks like it's gone to Hong Kong in the last visible hop

Ok, my son reports ping is back to normal now; I note another route-related issue on this thread is apparently resolved too - @pwner: would my son's issues be related to this other problem?

This is what tracing to that IP shows now; I see that now is going to a Sydney IP in lines 4 and 5, but should I expect all those 'request timed out' for the remaining hops?

Many thanks.

It shouldn't be going to SG/HK, it should be going to AU, so it's possible there was an issue with Riot's hosting in AU and they were directing players to south east Asia servers instead.

timeouts are fine, as the target IP address just doesnt respond to ping requests. nothing to worry about there. its the path that matters.
