Considering how much their network rollout would have cost I wouldn't have thought they'd have the capital to make a major acquisition like that. A strategic partnership would make more sense but they've already done that with Snap and it doesn't appear to have generated much interest.

I first head this rumour about 2 years ago, and every few months it keep reappearing, and it's always "nearly a signed deal" that will be announced soon.

While you could clearly never rule it out they do already have a close partnership. Snap supply 2degress with bandwidth and they're probably the only ISP left in the market that would be a suitable acquisition for 2degrees. The fact it hasn't already happened really poses the question as to whether it's something that will ever happen.

I heard the exact same rumor also 2 years ago and they did recently do a deal with Snap on some of their plans. It's an interesting partnership they have so a acquisition wouldn't be too surprising. From a business aspect 2degrees have done very well for them selves in the 6 years they've been running and I actually feel they have more dominance then Vodafone, (but not Spark for obvious reasons) so them buying out Snap would be a good decision. For a consumer perspective however. I could feel that the dealings would bring even more deals and customers to their already large customer base already.

It would be interesting but not surprising.

I would expect 2degrees could borrow for that purchase and wouldn't need the spare cash lieing around.

Trilogy are well funded and could finance a purchase.

If they do end up merging together as a whole company I hope they plan it well..

Usually merges don't end up well like VF and TCL

Which has worked very well for many of us who were customers of both.

2deg and snap are just on a SLIGHTLY different scale than VF and TCL.  Also each sell complementary products, there's not much crossover.  More consolidation of the smaller players can only be a good thing for the market.

And 2degrees upstream is already wholesale snap bandwidth, and it means that all becomes in house but wouldnt need to dramatically change.

The difficulty with mergers is often things like staff, company processes, and software.

I'm skeptical because of the on and off rumours over the years. At this point the rumour is firmly in the "believe it when i see it" zone.

Would ColdSnap be a good name for if they merged?
