Is any other 2degress broadband customers having issues with international traffic?

 

Getting huge latency on Overwatch and World of Warcraft - 1000ms+.   Cant stream from twitch or any international websites.

 

Called the 2degrees helpdesk who updated the firmware on the fritzbox, but I doubt very much that this is the issue as have had no problems and was working fine last night.

I'm having problems also on my 1000/500 connection in North Canterbury.

 

Getting 215+ms to Sydney which is unusual. Luckily these things seem to get sorted out pretty quickly with 2degrees :)

mmmmm after doing some traceroutes etc, looks like its an issue with vocus in australia

Appears a major fibre cut has gone and screwed things up majorly.  Although doesnt say if its a cut as in outage, or a cut as in a contractor cut the cable lol.

Yes there is a large cut out there today.

 

 

 

Depending on diversity of the network, i'd expect it to not be causing too much hassle.

Delay is quite noticeable on Orcon Fibre - I guess it must not have the best diversity. Skinny 4G is working absolutely fine however.

As per above, major fibre cut in Sydney due to roadworks. 2degrees have provisioned additional capacity to work around this issue on one of our international paths.

Ahh right. I noticed facebook going super slow when I got to the office this afternoon on a Vocus connection. Then see traffic routing to the US and back to AU.

I wonder if there were any protocols or checks the diggers were supposed to do before they started digging to see if they could've prevented this.

A directional bore was the cause of the disruption so these works would have been well planned out. Clearly not enough to come across existing fibre paths.... Here's hoping for a quick restoration.

I am surprised just how much goes through this fibre and how many ISP's use it also. Kudos to 2degrees with putting some mitigations in place at such short notice. I have noticed most things are totally fine now except one of my virtual machines at Vultr which has a 190ms ping but this is WAY better than what I was having this afternoon.

 

Friend of mine who switched to 2degrees recently is also rather impressed. Hopefully this fibre gets repaired quickly as the impact, while not so severe as earlier is still noticeable.
