Hi everyone, just letting you know that we will be upgrading our FRITZ!Box firmware during the period starting from 29/9 to 31/10 between 2am and 5am. This upgrade is to the new firmware version - 7.20/7.21 and will be staggered for all broadband customers (residential and business).

The benefits of the new firmware are;

  • Mesh and Wi-Fi Optimizations
  • WPA3 support – the leading most secure standard of security for WiFi
  • OS stability and performance
  • Up to 3x performance on VPN
  • More ringtones for Fritz Fon
  • Better support of SMB v2/ v3 for File sharing
  • Support of DNS over TLS

Full benefits of OS upgrade is found here >> http://ftp.avm.de/fritzbox/fritzbox-7590/other/fritz.os/info_en.txt

The models that will receive the latest update are;

  • 7490 – 7.21
  • 7530/7590 – 7.20

Awesome. New firmware is also going great for us 😀

May I ask what VPN are you using? I'm currently using ProtonVPN since it's free version comes with unlimited data with reduced speeds (😌). Oh and if you don't mind me asking, did you install your VPN into your Fritzbox or computer? asking this cause I thought usually VPNs is installed on the Windows 10 computer :D.

The VPN being discussed is the internal FritzBox one, where it is the server and you can remotely access your home network, not the one going out.

The VPN is referring to the fritzbox internal vpn server.   This is used so you can securely connect to your own home network and access the resources inside your network (like files and devices).  Because you 'own' the vpn server there are no fees.

I connect my Android phone's native VPN client into the Fritzbox VPN.

Just to point out that my 7590 was running 7.20 out of the box (thanks).

Yesterday AVM released 7.21 for the 7590 boxes - so while 2degrees is upgrading existing boxes to 7.20, if you manually check it you will see 7.21 available now.

Ah, you beat me to posting this 😁 Just about to install it on my box now. I've got my meshed 7490 running 7.21 already.
