Hi All
I am nearly convinced to make the change from Vodafone to 2dg.
Does anyone know if you can use the sim in a Vodafone USB modem.

It should just work, since Vodafone doesn't lock their devices. You might have to make a small configuration change, to use a different APN.

I use my Vodafone one in my Telecom one, so I assume the same would apply in your case

Thanks for your replies
First of went to Warehouse Stationary and they told me its a memory card - not a sim and would have to go to Dick Smiths for that.
Went to Dick Smiths and enquired.
Ended up getting a good deal with a new USB modem and 10Gs data for $199 that lasts for 90 days.
So your loss Warehouse Stationary i guess

And thanks for your replies guys.

If you are using a vodem in wondows i know you need to change some config files with notepad, otherwise it won't let you connect. Thats with an old E220 i have, i'm not sure about the newer ones.

Its kinda a pain as they aren't locked per se but the average person wouldn't be able to change the settings.

if you want to break completely free you can download the generic Huawei software for the Vodems apart from the new ZTE ones from the Huawei website and you don't have to look at the vodafone logo either Tongue out

I use a 2d SIM in a XT USB modem (the ones they were giving away free for a while) with the supplied software.  It all works with no config changes required - ditto for a VF SIM in the same hardware

If you are roaming on Vodafone you will need to change the settings though

I got an old Vodafone Vodem Stick working with a 2degrees SIM under Mac OS X, using these instructions:

http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com/page/ZTE+K3565-Z+%28Vodafone%29
http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com/thread/4008037/installation+and+usage+under+MacOS+X

No extra software required. Works well. Unfortunately with this setup you can't send or receive txts, and so have to take out the SIM and put it in a phone in order to buy more data. It would make things easier if 2degrees would let you buy data packs through their website.

Also used an old Nokia phone of mine as a 3G modem, which works pretty well on 2degrees, and unlike the Vodem can send txts to buy more data.

Hi JR44

Can I ask which Warehouse Stationery that was?  I'm sure it was just an off day but someone might need a spot of training!

Please PM to protect the innocent.
Cheers
