The biggest differentiator is that it can do P2P sync as well as online storage. Kind of like the old FolderShare app that Microsoft killed off. You may have a large folder (music for example) you want to keep synced between two (or more) computers but you don't want to pay for the online storage - Cubby can do that, whereas Dropbox, Skydrive, etc all force you to save a copy online too.

It's a good idea, considering if you have several computers it's also the easiest form of backup. It is pretty much what I use my Dropbox for might have to switch to Cubby (there are iPhone/Android) Apps for it which is good.
