Hi Guys,

Hope this is the right place to ask, I'm just after some feed back from NZ locals. It turns out a lot of our business is starting to come from NZ, and the NZ customers have asked if we can host our stuff on NZ servers instead of having to communicate to Sydney servers, as the link gets bottle necked some times apparently.

We are happy to do this, problem is I can't find any feed back on good and reliable companies in NZ.

What we are looking to do is have a server in Auckland, and a back up on south island.Incase the Auckland server gets hit by an earth quake, it then pulls from the south island server, and when the Auckland server is back up it jumps back etc.

In short, it was explained to me using this example.

We update out files to the sydney server, then a person from NY wants to get the files, so it contacts the sydney server and downloads it to the customer in NY as well as putting it on a NY server, so the next person that comes along from US doesnt have to contact the sydney server, it can pull straight from the NY server.

I'm not to sure what this method is called, but apparently it's hope apple etc do their update roll outs so fast.

I'm getting a it of track here. But What i'm chasing is a good server, fast, 99. up time, servers both island and 24 hr support that we can contact any time should their be an issue with the service.

Basically you want a CDN then? What kind of content are you distributing? Large files or small files in large quantities?

Or are you hosting a transaction platform (as in shopping carts, or a web site built from a database that is updated therefore needs replicatio)?

It's hard to say "hosting" because the final solution might involve lots of different technologies - replication, CDNs, databases. Without knowing what and how your platform works is hard to give a good answer.

Routes covering New Zealand to Australia aren't "full" - for example we use a CDN with a Sydney POP and I get a 30ms ping to the servers, from Wellington. This is not much more than then 20ms I get from here to Auckland, so perhaps it's more of which ISPs your customers are using than the routes themselves?

Another thing to consider is to find out where most of your New Zealand customers are. For example 75% of our New Zealand traffic comes from Auckland. Because our server is hosted in Auckland those can get something like 3 - 7 ms, while the rest of the country get from 15 - 30 ms.
