It would help to know things like:

- Is this for you personally? If so, what are you trying to do? Email, office type apps, store pictures, store videos, general backup, and so on. What kind of internet connection do you have today?

- Is it for your company? In which case, how many users and what kind of things are you planning to do? I.e. Email, office type apps, backup, or software as a service (Xero, Salesforce, and so on.) What kind of internet connection does your business have?

This will help people to tell you roughly the size of network you may need.

Thanks guys - it will be work - we have 15 people working in the premises and it is work where the data is stored and entered and accessed from the cloud . We have from what I can see an ADSL connection I think and VDSL is possible according to Chorus' network mapping tool. May have to upload documents in PDF format and some images as well to be accessed later - mostly typed straight into the system. Currently we have client based server - but are moving to the cloud for various reasons - I also need to work from home and have only a wireless broadband - speed test this morning showed download - 7.5 mbps , upload 2.7 mbps. ping at 40
will that help?

What kind of "work"? Just data entering on web-based services such as Xero? Or uploading images and other digital media (as in a digital studio for example) for computing? Or remote desktop? Or online backup?

Yes , entering of data mainly and also for remote access and also data entered is backed up and kept in the cloud.

This. Also - if you've got remote users dialling into your office (VPN) then as much upload as you can get.

Thanks Guys,

Just heard it is a VDSL connection - and so changing plans with the company and looks like we will get 26 mbps download and at least 5 mbps upload - should be good enough according to our cloud guys - but just realsied our ADSL speed this morning when checked was 3.2 mbps down and 1.3 mbps up - was surprised to get such low speeds while at home on a wireless connection i get way better speeds of nearly 8 down and 3.5 up.
