I have used Domains4Less for a few years now and always had good support and service from them.

This weekend however I transferred a customers domain to them so I could have better control over his DNS.  I ran into a problem however and decided to call weekend support (0900 number).  Despite many attempts, the calls have been unanswered.  I even tweeted Domains4Less and received a reply that they are open and probably just busy.  Several more calls remain unanswered.

I've opened a ticket in their support system but there's been no action on that either. The ticket confirmation e-mail says the following:  "We are here to help 7-days a week!"  Yeah Right!

This is bad form on the part of Domains4Less I feel.  If there is some kind of issue with the phone system then my tweets should have alerted them to it.

Come on Domains4Less, pick your game up please.

Surprise surprise. The "4less" part should of been the indicator to not expect great service 24/7.

Hopefully one of their team reads this forum and can jump on the issue for you before Monday.

Try contact WebDrive, D4Less are part of their group and the same call center answers their calls.

I have actually had a very slack run with them over the last month or so dealing with a customers domain.
As soon as we finally get control of the domain we will be moving from them.
Email support was days behind, the 0900 went unanswered and unreturned.

If you want better control of DNS / good support I'd recommend Metaname - cheapest isn't always best.

Many thanks everyone.

michaelmurfy thanks for your suggestion of using Metaname.  I've moved the problem domain to them and was able to resolve the DNS problem easily.

If they work out OK I might move more across, or all of them.

What is weekend support like from Metaname?  I tend to make most DNS changes on the weekend to minimise disruption to my customers, so If problems occur I need weekend support.

I think you will find most NZ companies don't provide weekend support, at least not free support. Those that do do may change more for the domain. I mean someone has to pay for support, and if a company is only making a few dollars profit on a domain, thats not paying for much support. Generally though you shouldn't need support for a domain, as it should all be self service, unless there is s technical problem with the system. Some registrars I use take days to reply.

I know you shouldn't need support for a domain, DNS changes are usually straightforward self-service matters.

However in this case there was a problem and support was needed, D4L provide an 0900 no. but no-one answered.

So in the case that something goes wrong, I want a support number I can call on the weekend if necessary, I have no problem with a cost being associated with that.

But you did get support via email, so they are still providing online support during the weekend. I would have thought online support would be quicker anyway. Or do they say 7 day phone support?

I just got one from "crazy domains". $3 for a dot com, $7 for whois privacy and another $24 for email hosting for 10 emails.

I was bored.

I did eventually get support e-mail support today (Sunday) after several tweets, and yes, D4L do advertise 7 day phone support.  And if I hadn't tweeted, would they have helped me at all?

I have phoned their 0800 number on a weekend before (one of my domains was about to expire, I was overseas and couldn't topup my account until I was back near a computer) the chap gave my account a IOU until I was able to top it up so my domain didn't expire. There's not normally any reason to phone a domain provider once things are all up and running anyway :)

Weekend support (hell, all support) from Metaname is fantastic

I've received responses to emails at all times from 7am in the morning to 10pm at night, even on weekends!
