Hi There!

Anyone know of services which securely erase or destroy backup tapes (LTO etc) that isn't terrible for the environment? I know a few places do HDD's for free as they can get some metal from them, but doesn't seem tapes have any precious metals in them.

Cheers

I just put mine in the secure destruction bin at work, has backup tapes written on it as an acceptable item. Not sure how the actually destroy them though.

Fire!  Burn them, BURN THEM ALL!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!   ;-)

Failing that turn them into Christmas tinsel for the next office party.

But those document shredding companies will deal with them for you.

I would think a Bulk Eraser would do the trick. There are some cheap ones on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/bhp/bulk-tape-eraser
