Common sense is not as common as you think.

Well, they at least seem to have reasonable expectations on time and cost, unlike most projects of that magnitude. At least, they sound reasonable to me... But although I have worked my share of Big Projects, I'm not exactly a tax expert.

I am glad "Xerox" is one of the New Zealand companies involved...

90% chance of failure.

Scope creep, poor management.

I'm getting bored of my current job. Wonder how I can get onto this, it'll be the gravy train to set me up for retirement.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Track records of these big projects is horrendous but, holy hell, if this follows the others, in the words of Pte Fraser, "We are doooomed!".

Knowing a fair bit of the internal politics of it... I would give it a 97-98% chance of failure.

Time to get onto GETS and make sure your rate is at least $300 an hour. Otherwise they won't take you seriously.

If the government want a simple system by using an "off the shelf tax package" then they need simple tax laws. For that the government needs to be in high gear changing laws removing the complexity.

Is that going to happen. No. So just sit back and watch our tax dollars wasted.

How many countries / companies have the New Zealand tax system: 1

I struggle with why senior management and the government fail to grasp such a simple concept since it by its very nature will be completely bespoke as that's the way the government want it.

Most NZ government departments are relatively good to deal with from a business persepctive. Except the IRD. Seriously I explicitly put the tax type and period in when I pay them but always find it in some random account.

Yep. Xerox started out in a garage in Paloalto, Invercargill.

They created the first mouse and Macintosh.

I think the Green Party is right.

Surely that 'money' would be more effectively used and spent in New Zealand.

The company selected has good credentials and a large portfolio of clients similar to IRD, How many NZ companies have that? And how many have experience with projects of that scope?
With out knowing the full details it is hard to make a complete assessment but it would seem to be an appropriate decision.
