Hi, am a noob with Hyper-V so hopefully this is something simple....

Have a Win 8.1 host and a Win 2008 R2 guest.

In Hyper-V switch manager have created a single Internal virtual switch and assigned to guest
 - host has been assigned 192.168.2.10/24 with no gateway
 - guest has been assigned 192.168.2.250/24 with no gateway

The host can ping and UNC browse to the guest fine, but the guest can't ping/browse to the host (which is what I need).

All firewalls have been disabled.

==============

The annoying thing is I've got this set up another identical laptop and it works fine.
The only difference is the working laptop is a fresh Windows 8.1 (host) install and the problem laptop has been running VMware Workstation and Virtualbox for some time.  Have uninstalled both VMware and Virtualbox.

You must disable each profile. Disabling the firewall is no longer supported.

At least that is what Dell thinks. ; )

I found hyper-v really bad after working with VMware workstation. Imho VMware have a massive technical lead in virtualization from way back they were practically the first, and still the technical leader there. Now they are competing with free Microsoft and open source as well but still around. Well worth the sticker price.

Hyper-v bare metal product yeah, but hyper-v desktop maybe Microsoft should just rename it 'v' lol.

Only things I can suggest is
- Are you accessing/pinging via ip address or fqdn? (ie try ping 192.168.10.2 or \\192.168.10.2).
- Ensure the firewall is off at the host as well

I loaded up a Server 2012R2 guest for testing.

I have NP at all pinging either way (guest-host vice-versa) and I haven't made any changes to the firewall etc..

Given that your guest address is 192.168.2.250, I would double check that your subnet mask is consistent.
