I have a financial service providing client (who I will call batch-receiver) who in turn has a client (who I will call batch-provider) who has batch files in PCDirect, which I am told is old BNZ banking software.

Batch-provider has exported the batch files in the only way they can find, and here is the problem.  They are XLS spreadsheets.  But worse, they are documents with headers and formatting printed to XLS spreadsheets.

Batch-receiver wants me to convert these to standard formats, or to write software to convert these to standard formats.  This is not a problem, but I suspect that the software may be able to do proper exports to uploadable formats - in which case batch-provider who has other clients with the same use case can save work on my part.

Has anyone used PCDirect?  Is it possible to export batch files in standard formats?  Or is this print to xls as document the only way?

Wow I thought BNZ retired this a couple of years ago. Is the PC still dialing in with a modem? The last client I migrated off this had the ability to export to CSV (type) files as well as propitiatory(BNZ1999) however that was a number of years ago. The other option being that BNZ could send the information through host to host (FTP) in a more suitable format. At any rate I would suggest your customer talk to BNZ and see what the plan is for moving them off PCDirect as I am sure that this software will not continue to be around (if it is the same one I am thinking about).

Thanks for the tips.  No idea about how the process works!  There will be contact to the BNZ either through my client or their potential client, but if me+my client work out how to get their client educated how to export as proper formats proactively - my client's problems go away, and they can become a real client and I don't have to write some abomination laughing.

BNZ replied to my client and said that their client should get in touch and they'll manually export the data in standard formats.  Otherwise, the PCDirect software only exports to excel and PDF.
