Hi, has anyone got a Sonicwall device setup as their UFB router. I have an older model device that I would like to use as a UFB router in a different part of our business.

It does support PPPoe and VLAN tagging so it should work I just can't work out how to get it working...... Any help would be appreciated.

Create a tagged VLAN subinterface on X1 - see the guide here https://support.software.dell.com/kb/sw11477 replace X0 with X1, assign X1:V10 as WAN with PPPoE as the protocol).

On the Advanced tab set the MTU as 1452, on the Protocol tab there is 3 check boxes - make sure only the middle one is checked.

I also recommend enabling WAN Load Balancing (under Network / LB ) with logical probes as it detects some ISPs who have PPPoE that sometimes disconnects in spirit but not in body.

Hi, thanks for your help, have done all of that but I get the below info in the logs, do I need to configure the X1 WAN interface with an IP even though i've created the sub interface?

@vulcannz thanks for your suggestion although it didn't work and after spending 3 days on this now I've scrapped it and am looking at Cisco units instead.

@btr Sonicwall is our internet facing device for MANY customers. I am confident it's possible to get working if you wish to persist. I could potentially get one of my network guys to do it for you. It would take 15 minutes or less if you have all the relevant information/

Hi Thanks for the offer but the Sonicwall interface page shows the appliance transmitting packets but not receiving anything at all. I've run out of time as I have bigger fish to fry and will be handing this onto one of my staff to look at but thanks again for the offer.

Its hard to read those logs but X1 should not be assigned to anything, you have DHCP requests. You should see PPPoE entries for X1:V10 which I don't see there.

Also disable IPv6 on X1:V10.

Problem is now resolved thanks, rather than setting the interface up as a PPPoe connection I just set it up as a DHCP WAN connection and it works........

Not sure how since the old modem that was there is using PPPoe but I am not complaining, I only worked this out because I had setup my laptop up to allow VLAN 10 tagging and before I even got around the configuring PPPoe on my laptop to I noticed the connection was working.

So for now its working although not quite on the right hardware due to differences between firmware versions 5 and 6 but I've opened a support ticket to resolve this.
