I'm tossing up whether to move from 365 to Gmail for my email hosting.

Gmail is slightly cheaper, but would be curious to find what most GZ'ers prefer and their opinion on what they think is better in terms of security etc.

Both products will work fine for me, and I'm not really tied to Outlook, but I do need active sync.
I did consider ZohoMail, but they seem to have endless problems with Spam and other random issues which don't make for a very polished solution.

gmail is my personal choice, 365 stack at work is kinda bloated.

Office 365. Unbeatable quality support. Google? Not so much.

Gmail 100%

If office 365 has all the spam issues as hotmail (incorrect flagging and letting stuff through) I could never recommend it. Buy I havny tried it myself so just what I've read about it

How many users? Just yourself?

Its a tough choice and I love Google, but I'd probably go with Exchange online because I feel Microsoft's support trumps Googles.

A different option - Amazon workmail.  Putting it out there in case you hadn't considered it.

Spam filtering on Office 365 is really good.

I'm in love with Outlook, and that links me strongly with Office 365.

Every time I've tried (for myself or a client) to use GMail commercially, the compromises have been too many.  We only have one client using GMail full time commercially, and they are very happy.  Their IT systems are basically completely browser-based except for a software VoIP client.

I prefer Google Apps. I also find it easier to administer, but that may be because I've used it more.

I actually use Fastmail for my email. The web interface isn't near as good as Gmail or O365, but it's good enough, and I mostly use IMAP. The (now legacy) family plan significantly cheaper, their standard plans are the same price as gmail. If I had to move plans I'd likely move providers, maybe Zoho or something. Hosting your own email is a PITA.

Until, I Have Bills mobile number to discuss and affect strategy I will forever be a Google supporter, Support is not an issue if you're a holistic user that means having Google Adwords as well as utilising the products, then you have your own account manager that is exceptionally helpful and access to a brilliant support structure...

"The term google itself is a creative spelling of googol, a number equal to 10 to the 100th power, or more colloquially, an unfathomable number. Googol was coined in the 1930s and is attributed to the nine-year-old nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner."

Ooodles of googles to you all.

Allow me to Google that for you, Mr Google Fan!  :)  http://www.ceoemail.com/s.php?id=ceo-9946

(Note - I've not tested it!)

I am a single user at the moment. Only need email and one of the requirements for me is ActiveSync.
Support wise, I don't expect to be interacting with them much if at all for a single mailbox. I'm more focused on the cost, security and availability. If it's reliable and support sucks, then I don't mind.

Thanks for the suggestion - wasn't even aware they did mail, so definitely wasn't originally considering it. Will take a look.

What about Rackspace?  Has anyone had any experince with them?  Features and costs seem good, but I don't know anyone who has used them.  I had been thinking about moving to them from a grandfathered plan on everyone.net.

I personally use google apps from years ago (when it use to be free).  I find them ok but just to throw another one at you there is also zoho mail, which has a free email up to 5gigs

I specifically mentioned them in my post - I ruled them out because they have crap spam filtering (have a look at their forums) and they seem to have a relatively immature platform (Bugs mainly), but thanks for the suggestion all the same.

It's sounding quite balanced between 365 and Gmail.

I do prefer the 2FA that office 365 has when logging in. From there it's really down to the interfaces I suppose and well, it's anyones guess on security.

Does anyone know if the prices we see on Google are the GST inclusive NZD pricing? or is the USD pricing?

365 over Gmail. I use both. Outlook has its issues but it fits better with everything else that I use.

In general, I find that Microsoft is somewhat less infuriating than Google but both could improve.
