From my basic comparisons for low value transactions, that's not too bad.  The majority of that 2.9% will likely go to the Merchant Service fees and Stripe themselves may only be pocketing the 30c.

Not bad. The merchant account is always the killer. I suppose Stripe bank on volume.

It's fair. eWay charges 2.7-3.4% depending on which plan you choose if you don't have a merchant account already. Plus their service is a nightmare compared to Stripe.

 

The only issue we had switching to Stripe was that they only settle into our account once a week, compared to when we used our ANZ merchant account with eWay which I believe was daily.
