Hi guys,

I appologise is this is in the wrong forum, but im not entirely sure where to put it

Right anyways;

I am looking for a company that can provide me with exchange email hosting. (I dont want a website, dont have a domain and am not fussed about using a shared domain e.g @hotmail.com)

I have trialed this service and am in two minds about it after I found a couple of quirks with it..

Has anyone used this service (I know you have MF, your name is still in the Global Address Book :P)

Did you enjoy your experience with this company? was the service reliable? and if not this company, what other company would you suggest?

Im living in Auckland so would prefer an Auckland based server.

Alternative solution.

Do you know about google online apps? All you need is just buy a domain name you like and use google apps as you e-mail server with the best service provided by google :) and it would be your.name@your.domain.co.nz e-mail :)

and it's FREE :) well you can upgrade to business solution if you want.

Hi thanks for your reply.
i dont think they support syncing of contacts and calendar items etc, do they?

Exchange really is the only one that would fit in my case.. as far as i know..

Because I want it to sync emails, contacts, calendar (and maybe notes if thats possible)

hi there,

do you have a link for that company? when i go to the ICONZ website, it doesnt show anything (obvious) about exchange?

Oh and also, do you have to have a domain name registered? or do you just get a shared domain like yourname@ICONZ.co.nz?

Both Scott and myself use Sherweb. They offer some pretty good value plans with large storage space.

I've never had any issues with them but I believe Scott has had some timeout issues using Outlook which could be ISP or Sherweb related.

Telecom have recently started to offer hosted Exchange starting at $9.95, though this is just for a 250MB mailbox and you can pay an extra $14.95 or $19.95 per month extra for 1GB or 2GB mailboxes respectively. http://www.telecombusinesshub.co.nz/Internet/email/Pages/Prices.aspx
A cheaper option is GoDaddy's new Exchange offerings too: https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/email/personal.asp?app_hdr=&ci=12931

I've done the rounds of the US providers, always finding something I didn't like. As sbiddle said I use SherWeb at the moment but Outlook stops responding while it talks to the server which is really frustrating. That could be an ISP issue.

I'm with Black + White as a mobile operator now and get a free 500MB Hosted Exchange 2007 account from them provided by Bizo. I'm about to migrate to it so can't comment on their performance yet and I doubt they will give you a single mailbox but could be worth a shot.

Telecom's offering is only Exchange 2003 - 2007's Outlook Web Access is very much nicer!

Yeah that could be a problem and would very soon after, frustrate me..

I wish I could be with B + W, i signed up for beta testing a while ago, yet i havent heard a damned thing :(

EDIT: Yeah, i need it setup properly in the outlook clients etc.

because i need to sync between 2 computers and my iPhone 3G.
And mobileme is just plain useless.

I believe their public launch is in the next few weeks . . .

It saves me US$10 per month (which is getting more expensive due to the currency exchange rate) which was another tick in the pros box when assessing B+W as a provider.

If you are always in NZ, would you not be best to go with someone local (especially for response times)?

I had an account with them during the Exchange Server 2007 beta, to test the voice activated access features... I run my own Exchange server so I never really used theirs for anything else, so I can't comment.

Oh okay, fair enough.
I was a little put off by their phone service (trying to get hold of them).

So everything works great with your iPhone as far as syncing contacts, calendars and emails?
Do you find that the servers are quite fast? because I have found with some providers that their servers are a little slow.. Although, I think they may have been out-of-country servers.

also, which plan would you reccomend? I see they have a $19 one and a $29 one.

The only difference I see is 100MB and the use of office software?

When they say use of Outlook software, do they mean if you go with the cheaper plan, you won't get a free copy of 2007 outlook, or does it mean you are just not able to use an outlook client - forcing you to use the OWA?
