Now they may be totally ligit,  but their website does appear to have a fair bit of cut and paste

"Your Business Listing is a New Zealand owned and operated business, here to help you with yours."

First flag.

I look at most SEO services with disdain.

Get the wrong type of people doing SEO for you and you might see a short term gain from them linking to you from their link network, but very likely Google will catch on and you will find yourself on the last page of Google.

So make sure that you are 100% certain you hire the right kind of people to help you with it.

My experience with SEO companies is that they tend to use automated tools to provide impressive looking reports designed to show you how bad your website supposedly is and to scare you into buying their services (the last report I had for a client showed that their website didn't have this and this and that, where I could quite clearly see that it did have this and this and that, so the report was obviously wrong). Then once they've done some work for you they'll tell you that they need to consistently fine-tune things and that you'll have to pay a monthly maintenance fee for this service.

Then once they've done some work for you they'll tell you that they need to consistently fine-tune things and that you'll have to pay a monthly maintenance fee for this service.

This. Two examples:

1. Auckland-based SEO company sends a "report" to the company I worked for. The report says "some pages exist on Google but not on the website anymore. You should replace or redirect these pages to new products".

We were not selling "products". It was an IT company. The indexed pages in question were events - the time the event was done, the page was removed. They didn't look at the context to determine those were not "products".

2. Many years ago we had an agreement to load IT jobs on Geekzone from a specific source. I dealt with their CEO directly and everything was automated. A few months later some spam posts (Looking for jobs? Click here) started appearing on Geekzone with a username matching that company's CEO but coming from India. I asked what was going on and he said he never posted here. Their tech folks had hired a Christchurch-based SEO company, and they obviously outsourced to an India-based SEO farm to plant "backlinks" to make it "appear better on Google". Needless to say we removed those spam posts and they rescinded the contract with the SEO, I mean, SPAM company.

I DO NOT TRUST SEO COMPANIES.
