The MS Purview marketing seems to suggest that I can "map out the data estate".

Trying to make sense of data spread across SharePoint\OneDrive, for file age and sizes. Purview suggests it can perform such tasks, but the portal is rather unintuitive and promises loads, but in actual fact probably isn't the tool for the job.

Does anyone have any experience with MS Purview, and could point me in the right direction please?

Haven't used it in a while but its a Data Governance tool so it can do what you say but it takes a bit of know-how to get a some working reports and ediscovery actions.

Maybe look at this Purview Introduction learning path to see if it's suitable, there's loads of other Purview learning paths to help upskill yourself.
