sidefx: Completely agree... after using sugarsync  (link will give you and I 500MB free storage :) ) for a bit I'm was a little disappointed with offerings from the big players. Though I must admit I would trust a cloud offering from one of the big guys more.. they just don't seem to have the features nailed yet...

Cheers for the link, wasn't really aware of sugarsync before today, will give it ago until Drive is unleashed on my account

EDIT:

"I am sure there will be eventual sync issues, but one thing I did to ease the transition (or co-existance) from dropbox was to create my Google docs folder inside dropbox (i.e. c:\dropbox\Google Drive\). Then I moved all my dropbox folders into the drive folder.  I can now access my google docs at dropbox.com.   Of course, since the synced Google docs are just links to docs.google.com this isn't particularly useful."

Just saw this comment on an article, using the same theory I can sync my dropbox folder to sugarsync, then apply the above when I get Drive, then everything is synced in 3 cloud services? That is pretty smart if you ask me, assuming you have enough storage on each service

Sugarsync is one of the most used sync tools around. If anyone reading this thread needs information on other cloud storage/sync (yes, there are other than Google Drive, and some actually better), I recommend this article/comparison.

I seem to be semi-migrated, my android is now on GDrive with 5gb docs and 10gb mail however i cannot find a pc app to sync files, and Gdrive website informs me it will tell me when my google drive is ready...

Up until now i have used insync on my laptop to sync my work GDocs into my personal dropbox folder and it works well

P1n3apqlExpr3ss: So anyone actually gotten into Drive yet? Mine isnt ready yet...

Got mine up this morning. Download size is 741,376 bytes and was easy to download and install.
Google send a download link when your drive is ready.

And yes, Gmail now says 10GB (10240 MB) of space, which is crazy large as I only have use 64MB.

Got mine yesterday when launched. Installed the app to see how it works. Decided to stick with Windows Live Skydrive because

A.they work exactly the same
B.Skydrive is 25GB so I can actually have all of My Documents there
C.Skydrive app gives remote access to all drives on the host computer from any browser, handy to have

Freitasm, I'm liking the look of Skydrive too, but scares me there is no Recycle bin, if you delete a file on using Web interface on Skydrive its gone forever, no way to recover it

You go a strategy for that scenario?

I have BACKUP. Cloud storage is not backup. My desktop is the main source, I have everything synchronised to SkyDrive and to my laptop (using Live Mesh)... But I also have a CrashPlan backup. I also have a 2TB drive on my desk that is constantly updated with Acronis Non-Stop backup.

freitasm: Both Google Drive and Skydrive suffer from the same problem: no transparent way for migration from desktop to cloud.

For users who currently store things on c:\My Documents (yes, not the full path) neither Google Drive app or Skydrive app allow to sync that folder to the cloud.

You can obviously change the folder location to be the new folder used by the app, and move the files across. But that's not transparent.

Seriously, aren't these folks thinking?

Yes but that's where us Geeks come into play by helping out the 99% of our friends and family and co-workers who don't get it.

Skydrive is awesome.

AGreed his is a major problem and probably the worst thing about the service.

For extra food for thought, compare the terms of service:

@BlueShift: Google certainly need to clarify how their ToS apply to Drive, but there is a first sentence missing in that screenshot:

https://www.google.co.nz/intl/en/policies/terms/regional.html

Some of our Services allow you to submit content. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours.

I expect they'll fix the TOS. They usually do.

Just downloaded the mac client.

There was a check box during install offering to bring down all my google docs locally. I unchecked it.

My Word documents in google docs were brought down and synced locally without asking.

So, anything in google drive which is not a google doc will be synced automatically by the looks.
