Godaddy isn't renowned for the best quality hosting for a start, and I have heard of people who have had problems hosting dynamic websites with it. That is also too many hops, so they many not be using the best upstream providers either.
It is only 12 hops to my US server, although they do advertise that they do use top upstream providers. I don't notice any noticeable speed differences myself between my US and NZ hosted sites. The only slight difference I do get is sometimes uploading to the US, it can be a bit slower, but nothing major.

I see the newzealandspectator.com website is now on Cloudflare. And pretty fast for me here on Vodafone cable.

Yes it does seem to be quite good now. However the only reason I was hosting in th estates was that when I started messing around the difference between hosting there and here was chalk and cheese cost wise. It seems like everything else slowly "globalizing" like everything else. So I will continue to look around for a unlimited service that suits my needs here. One of the issues godaddy has is .co.nz hosting It is limited to what you can do etc.
