I found LogMeIn a pain in the butt. I only logged in occasionally and every time was a problem. Team Viewer works 100% with no problems.

Thanks for the tip... Have already created a teamviewer account... I hope their other 'Hamiachi' service doesn't go paid...

Drat!
Used logmein for quite some time and liked it - but not often enough to want to pay for it.
Always found it worked without any issues.
Have used teamviewer when I had to help someone remotely - havent tried that as a replacement for logmein though.

VNC always seems to be very cranky and havent had much luck with it.

Time for mr google to help find a solution I suppose...

Yes yes - ok - point made.
They have every right to withdraw the freebie version.
Still doesnt stop it being annoying and I cant say that even at the bargain price of $49 for a year that I use it often enough to make that worthwhile.

Googled and found an article lamenting the end of free logmein - they suggested looking at:

I don't know about the others, but I wasn't a "free user" as I paid a Pro subscription for a couple of machines (the servers), the Ignition subscritpion and the Hamachi subscription.

I think that all the Pro features (remote drive access, remote management of services, users, log viewer, etc) are overkill for accessing my home PCs or my in-laws's PCs to apply some update or initiate some trivial task.

Hamachi wasn't worth anymore as their Windows 8.1 support was appalling. I was paying the subscription but stopped using it about three months ago and now using my own SSTP server as VPN.

Charging Pro fees for those low-use, home PCs only just made me move to another service taking all my subscriptions away from them.

Have used logmein on my home and work PCs but have now replaced it with google's "chrome remote desktop"

Was a little concerned that it may somehow require having chrome running 24x7 on the remote device (though it usually does) - but it doesnt seem to be a requirement.

Its OS agnostic and works on pretty much everything.

Not quite sure where/how the app installs exactly.
It seems it must be a service.
You can close the chrome browser on the remote host and still access it - You do have to set you account and PIN on the remote host though.

EDIT: Seems to install a process called chromoting - that must be the remote service.

We have a few clients that have been using the free LogMeIn so will have to find something else for them as they don't use it enough to warrant paying for something.

For those that need something else I highly recommend taking a look at ScreenConnect.

Its hard to beat TeamVeiwer.
The price is ridiculous though.
The free version can detect when its being used commercially, somehow, & will throw up some
embarrassing warning boxes about not for commercial use,play fair etc, that gets seen at both ends.

I looked at the Free alternatives a few years back, none seemed as good as TV & could be a worry about products from unkown Companies , allways a (small) chance you are giving the software developer a back door to your customers Servers & PC's

I have about 8 PCs connected to my LogMeIn account. 3 of my own, and the rest are family members for remote support.

I've already been using TeamViewer anyway for my one ones in parallel, so will move the others to TV too.

Such a shame. LogMeIn is great, but it would cost me US$449 a year just to keep supporting a few family PCs, most of which I might access once or twice a year.

I would have been happy to pay maybe $10/m to continue with the current product. Hopefully Team Viewer keep their free service.

My work has a Corporate TeamViewer license for version 8, however now that version 9 is released they want us to pay for the upgrade.
At these prices it should be a lifetime license, so if you are thinking about buying TV bear this in mind.

EDIT: Upgrade from v8-v9 Corporate is NZD$1229
