Apparently the CyberPower UPS's for cheap cruddy ones arent too bad from PB so I've heard at the very least the warranty covers the UPS AND the battery for 2 years....
I usually wont touch a UPS under 3KVA now. I can recommend this: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=818776 Good price note it excludes power cable but has everything and requires a 15A style power socket (the one with the enlarged earth pin) preferably connected to a 20A circuit.
Since the question was wanting a UPS that would run a server for 45 minutes...
will they really need to go for a sine wave UPS, not just a consumer grade square ware UPS Some PC power supplies dont like square wave power, would that be even more of an issue after 1/2 hour+ Also, cheaper consumer grade UPS's wont have adequate cooling to allow for a 1/2 run (safely) . Buy a UPS that has a fan .
So should he be looking at a Backup Power device , NOT a UPS
I have made a recommendation to purchase an APC unit with 1500 VA which should give sufficient time to cover an outage and then to effect a controlled shutdown of the server.
There will be a decision to be made about how to long to wait after a power failure, before initiating the shutdown I guess, but that's another question, and I'll post a separate query when that comes up.
