There is also the KIOSK plan which is NZ$2.50/month/user. Only 2GB mailbox though/user which maybe more than enough?

2GB is plenty I would have thought, unless you are sending lots of attachments.. Although they only have a 25MB limit per email anyway, and you can always download old emails to archive locally by setting up a rule to download emails over a certain age.

gundar: Possibly not 100% relevant, depending on what you want to do with your email/domain, but I recently looked at all the offerings of the big providers and found all the fringe benefits to be the differentiator. That is, if you just want email and domain security, go with either. If you have a smartphone/tablet etc, you use Skype, CMS or anything like that, consider going with the provider that supports your technology best. For example, I have a Lumia 800 and it does not support most of the features of Office365, anymore, (apart from email and calendar), after some weeks with MS tech support, we all came to the conclusion that I need a Windows 8 device or lower expectations. Since moving email and domains is a bit of an exercise (if you have lots of computers to setup and lots of email to migrate...) you may want to consider this now and what you want to do in 2-3 years with email.

Like I said, possibly not relevant, but certainly a deal breaker for me when I looked at this last year.

We have iPhones and iPads main thing it would be for just emails on the mobile devices, so should work fine.

I use Zoho.com - completely free to use them as a mail host for my godady domain, no limitations, really happy with them.

Email and web are generally best hosted sepearely by companies that specialise in them. There are a bunch of threads about email hosts, personally I use fastmail.com (aka fastmail.fm) and find them very good - I use IMAP from multiple devices plus their web interface. ISP provided email that you get free with your hosting is generally rubbish, a tick in the box.

For your bog standard cpanel and plesk type of hosting, then yes, email on them can be less desirable than with specialist email providers, as it is all hosted on a single server. So if the website server goes down, so does the email. But some hosting providers do have separate email servers, that are separated from the web hosting servers, and that service can be on par with specialist email services. You can also get the benefit of them hosting the email in NZ, which can be faster to download

If you only want a few mailboxes have a look at ZOHO (zoho.com)
You can point your DNS mx records to them to have them do all the mail, still keeping the rest of the functionality on a cheap VPS

I was looking at swapping to them a while ago but my domain is the master on my google apps account and it a right pain to try and move a master domain out from google apps.

I moved away from Google Mail quite easily. If you have administrative rights over your domain, you can disable just the email portion, while leaving Google Apps intact.

I'm currently with outlook.com, but about to make another move shortly - either hosted myself, or if I find another host thats suitable.....

So far very impressed with Office 365.
The console is nice to use and easy you can then drill down for more complex things as well if you need to but the basics is setup.
Domain's transferred easily. Well worth the money imo.
