Anyone that blocks gmail probably isn't someone you should use.

It was a real estate agents email address whose email provider (a NZ IT Provider) that was blocking my gmail email address, and they are using these free RBLs, Barracuda, which are really the ones blocking googles servers IPs. Yes you are right that anyone who blocks googles servers shouldn't be used.

So, to start with, I'm giving Zoho a go.

Account setup went smoothly, and email migrated across from my old server ok.

However, while anti-spam is catching a lot of spam, I have already had some false positives (for example, kickstarter updates, and a couple of personal emails that were replies).

I'll monitor the situation, and make a decision in a week or so whether to continue using Zoho.

I've been using Zoho for over a year now, catering for 4 email addresses on our family domain.  The spam filtering is absolutely hopeless, so I've configured Gmail to fetch all messages from Zoho, and thereby make use of its vastly better spam filtering.  I also use Gmail to do all the sending.

Using a Zoho/Gmail combo for personal email accounts works really well and it's totally free, so I can't complain.

Thanks for that.

If that's the case, I'm not sure as I'll be using Zoho for very long then.

I'd rather keep our email under one service if possible, and I'm not sure how the family would feel about using gmail as a main email account either.

Looks like the Office 365 Kiosk plan is not suitable -- webmail or POP only. No IMAP/Exhange support.

I guess I'll continue searching then...

Also Russian, which makes some people a little nervous, especially with current political climates and all that.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I don't know why you say that as in my experience, Gmail is the best in the business.  Some people are paranoid about them scanning messages and serving up ads based on content of said messages.  However, if you access the Gmail servers via POP/IMAP/SMTP only, you never see the ads, so it's just like any other mail server.

I'm about to sign up our church for 25mail.st. They're NZ based, cheap and answer my emails.
