bonkas: +1 for FreeParking

Weren't they sold last year, and are now owned by the same company that runs Domains for less? There is a lot of consolidation in this market at the moment.

They have been bought and sold twice in recent years that I know of, and the service levels have remained high in my experience.  The D4L platform is awful in my opinion (IIRC) where the FreeParking platform has never given us trouble and I find it easy to navigate.

Does metaname do DNSSEC if your DNS is hosted elsewhere e.g. cloudflare or do you need to use metaname DNS?

Hosted elsewhere, not sure if Metaname do DNSSec for when they manage your DNS.

Generally DNSSEC support in relation to registrars means the ability to put in your own DS records (just like you would for Glue) as they need to be incorporated into the SRS/.nz root.

I am using Cloudflare and Metaname, with DNSSEC.

Actually Metaname (and NZRS) did not support the algo used by Cloudflare - I put them in contact and after a day or so they came back and asked me to try - worked on the first try.

I've been looking at moving away from D4L, so thanks for the suggestions.

+1 for metaname, it's not the cheapest nz registrar but has great support and probably the best ui/control panel around.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and suggestions. It's been great having so many chip in.

I have a domain expiring in the next few weeks. With the rather overwhelming good reviews here, I'm going to try Metaname.

Does Metaname support simple email forwarding? Can't see this mentioned on their Home or Pricing pages. I'm currently with d4l, but like others, I'm looking to switch. I've got about a dozen email addresses on my current domain that get forwarded to various other email addresses

One thing I'd like to point out about Metaname that is different to a lot of other registrars is that they perform a renewal when you transfer a domain to them.

I transferred a domain last night and it went smoothly. .com domains are a bit more complex to transfer than .nz so it all took about 3 hours. I will gradually transfer more domains as they come close to renewal, as bulk shifting everything now would be an expensive endeavour.

No they don't however just get Zoho Mail (https://www.zoho.com/mail/) and do it through that. Far more reliable and free.

For .com that is standard, for .nz I think it's required if there are less than X days left.

Thanks @nigelj and @freitasm

Might transfer my domains back from discount domains (who don't support DNSSEC), I had tried previously with DNSSEC and metaname but couldn't figure it out at the time

Edit: Ah, didn't see the option under the account settings that you had to check to expose the DNSSEC settings!

Hmmm, how long does it usually take to receive the UDAI from d4l vie email?
